Today the DMN has a discussion of possible FAs for the Rangers. The pitchers are the usual high-time/injured guys, but the pitching nugget is Davis will pay whatever it takes to sign Kershaw and count that separate from any other signings.

Two on the list of LH bats possibilities include one excellent and one that caused me to spit my coffee out when I read it:

You guess which is the excellent one.

I saw that column in the DMN, Viper. And I have one other thought - if you believe (and that's a very bif "if") that the farm system has some good pitching prospects being developed and ready to go in two or three more seasons, then the contract horizon for signing FA pitchers shortens a bit. The team could sign one or two FA pitchers to 2-4 year contracts and avoid the longer span for an older player.
I like the prospects they have drafted, but they seem to be developing more slowly. Perhaps Bruce Bochy can influence the hiring of pitching coaches in the minors and accelerate the development process.

HHD, if you can find a proven pitcher who is looking for a bridge contract and you believe in the youngsters, that would be a smart way to go.

Rangers need to take their pitching and position money and offer the Angels their choice of two/three minor league players and just make LAA an offer for Ohtani that even the Angels cannot refuse. That would solve two needs immediately.

I just want to see a team that can compete for a .500 or better record. 75-81 wins, that would be progress. I felt like this year was almost like treading water and when you are as bad as the Rangers are and have been, treading water is losing ground.

It happened so late Friday I almost missed it and with the World Cup, College Football and the holiday season its definitely under the rader but Jacob freaking deGrom is coming to Texas. If he can stay healthy, and boy is that a huge if, then the Rangers have an ace starter for the next five years.

I agree FW. If he is healthy and can stay healthy he will be a big plus. Also, they signed another older guy, Andrew Heaney, today.

I like the aggressive moves. If everyone stays healthy and can deliver the promised performance, the Rangers will be significantly improved. I'll be watching the next few days - with Simiens and Seager locked up in the middle infield, there are some quality prospects at those positions that can become attractive trade bait, and the Rangers could still use an upgrade in LF.

Do they dare bring back Gallo for his glove?

Interesting question. Gallo is one LH hitter who could really be helped by the new restrictions on infielders shifting. And we know that he is a premium defensive outfielder. Can he cut down his all-or-nothing swing in order to make contact more often and get some singles to go with the homers?
