8-4 With Below Average QB Play

We are 8-4 with below average QB play for the majority of the season. As a result, I'll take it! Easily could have been 10-2 or 11-1 by simply having average QB play. If the defense keeps improving (they were fantastic this season, sans 4th down), and a QB emerges, we could be really good sooner than later!

    Here's to a good season!

Message to CDC: A contract extension for Sark is not necessary at this time! Let's keep rolling and have that discussion down the road.

8-4 and without 2 complete collapses in the second half we would be at 10-2. That damned safety non call against Bama and 11-1. I hate getting my hopes up but the second half collapses stopped with the KSU game when we held them off. Maybe Sark finally figured out how to prevent that from happening.

Anyway, I chalk this up to about what I expected. Was hoping for 9-3 but I'm satisfied with 8-4. Next years expectation is 10 regular season wins and playing in the Big XII championship with a possible playoff run.

FWIW, Sark hasn't earned an extension and I think CDC is smart enough to know that.

Surely any discussion of a Sark extension is a joke, right? At least 2 losses can be put on his shoulders. Very mediocre play calling and poor adjustments in the 2nd half. I hate to think where we would have been without #5. He's a nice guy and a good recruiter, but I'm still not sure he can get us to the promise land.

So far the only talk of extension AFAIK is on here
I don't think Sark would ask for one

I think our offensive line will be top notch next couple years at least.
leadership will be down with the loss of roschon
d line should be in good hands if everyone stays besides the seniors.
offensive backfield will take a hit, but we have good backups that could step up.
QB situation is a quandary. maybe we can get an experienced portal transfer. I wonder if there is a mature qb tearing it up somewhere who wants to get in a more high profile situation.
we need to shore up the wr position.

I think we may be in the top ten going into next year.
I hope all the coaches stay.

Of course, an extension would be absurd at this time. That is unless CDC has intel that someone is aggressively coming after Sark. If that were the case, he would have a decision to make.

I believe that this team and program is on the verge, but we’ll see. I will say however that Sark may have called his best game “of a 2nd half,” today. Baylor has a good D and the creative way we were able to move the ball was somewhat different than what we have been seeing previously. Here’s hoping that this is a trend and not an aberration. If we are fortunate enough to play next Saturday in Dallas, we’ll find out.

Uh yeahSark getting a contract extension SHOULD be a joke but the way universities throw money at coaches it would not surprise me if we did. Iirc Herman got extensions for similar records.

I hope cdc is smarter than that. If Sark wants to test the waters I say let him. Lol

What has Sark said or done to suggest he is "testing the waters"?
With the way the team has inconsistently played does anyone here think there is another program out there with the money and desire to pursue Sark at Texas?

    One word: Recruiting.

What he pulled off after 5-7 last year, and this year with Arch Manning and company, clearly Sark is an outstanding recruiter.

I didn’t say he was, much less that anyone would be trying to lure him away.

hence offering a contract extension being a joke.

I coijd see it happening anyway, for the reason dukesteer explains.

You're not going to portal someone in more talented than Card. Especially with Arch in. If you want to have 4 QBs in the room, better find a way to keep Card.

Need to let QE hit the portal. Case mcCoy 10 times better than him. I know he is young but I dont think he has it upstairs to be a big league QB. He makes bad decisions and cannot handle pressure. He is definitely overated.

Geez, I feel like I'm seeing too much negative talk. all the negative talk needs to be toned down some.

If you can't see the big picture, I don't know what to say. I've been frustrated as well but this team had NOTHING for over 10 years now. A good recruiting class and then many would transfer out with a less than stellar class to follow resulting in a vicious cycle of frustration for those that were left and the fans.

Fast forward to Sark, we get a great class come in last year, have another one looking pretty dang good this year AND the defense is playing better than its played in over a decade. Defense, defense, defense.....it matters ALOT. I for one see a coaching staff that is actually making a difference for once. Things could fall apart for sure but I see a trajectory for this team trending up and at a steep climb.

I get the frustration, i do, but this coaching staff has done an amazing job to get these guys playing at a high level on the defensive side of the ball and deserve some lee way with respect to the offensive side of the ball. We have an offensive minded coach who already has a great defense. That isn't typical, normally he has a great offense and he can't stop anyone. Goodness, once that offense starts running on all cylinders, we are going to be a super dangerous team and I KNOW Sark will get the offense running like a well oiled machine. Just a matter of time

So, try to just sit back and enjoy the ride, it looks to me like we will be back to the good old days sooner rather than later where we are expecting a win in most every game. :hookem:

Card's future at Texas was sealed in Lubbock when Sark refused to put him in during the second half and refused to play him for the remainder of the season.

As inept as QE is and barring, a portal find, the only option for 2023 would be starting a true Freshman.

    You mean Stillwater.

I think the biggest issue QE had (and we all encouraged) was being gifted the starter. Colt McCoy had over a year in the system before he took his first snap against UNT (and lit them up on his 2nd ever throw with the bomb to Sweed for TD). He had a coach dad and basically served as the QB-in-waiting to one of the best ever, and QE had no such luxury in Austin. He was handed the position by default, thus, he didn't really have to work hard for it.

I think one thing that this offseason gives him is a challenge to really "become" that guy we wanted him to be this year. This is a kid who skipped his senior year of HS, didn't get much help at tOSU, and then was expected to be the thing. Now? He'll have Manning and Murphy pushing him in Spring Ball. We'll weed out some of the malcontent receivers so that he's not just looking for Sanders every throw. He can't just hand off to Bijan and Roschon any longer, so we all know he'll have to improve at throwing.

If he can't take advantage of all the benefits he has, I bet he portals after the summer.

I wonder how much better QE would have looked if he had the time bailer’s QB had.

I have been critical of Ewers and I do think that he should’ve been replaced in the second half at Stillwater and against TCU. However, I continue to believe that he is an unusual talent and I think many of us will be eating our words next year.

Most of the Ewers doubters were wanting PK fired last year, so there is that.

I do not want another coach at this time. I prefer to give Sark more time. He should have jerked QE earlier in the year. He may see potential in QE and that is why he is still starting him. You could see he lost confidence in QE Friday and went strictly with the run. The receivers he hit were wide open and he tends to concentrate and stare down one receiver. When pressure is applied he folds or panics. Hopefully,in time he will mature to be a better QB

Sark says it's open competition this spring at the QB position.
    Perhaps Card stays (probably not).
Arch enters in January and perhaps he's the real deal right off the bat.
    Maalik is a total mystery.
Perhaps Ewers becomes what we hoped he would be.
Barring a run on the portal we should be in good shape one way or another.

Did he lose confidence in QE, or did he lose confidence in our OL's ability to keep QE clean? I think it was more the second. I also think he kept confidence in our OL's ability to win when run blocking.

I think it's reasonable to say that the coaches now have a good idea of what to teach Ewers since they have seen him in action.
They will probably be going over plenty of film. probably will be seeing a sports psychologist also, not trying to be funny. The game is big business these days.
Like I said previously, I am not mad at Ewers but at Sark for costing us games this year. But Sark kinda makes up for deficiencies with great recruiting. So there's that.

no o line can keep any QB clean always.
I have been pleasantly surprised by our o line this season considering the youth.
