The article left out a couple of other details. in addition to writing bad checks, Mr Whelan was using someone else's Social Security number when court marshaled and he had 80,000 in cash when arrested in Russia. So I totally agree with you that there is no parallel of the charges between Whalen and Griner charges. Was the Russian sentence of Griner harsher than our punishment for similar crimes? Probably not since our state prisons are full of blacks serving long sentences for possession of 1 ounce of weed. I am certainly no fan of Griner.

 

I don't understand the Whelan love here, he did indeed receive a Bad Conduct Discharge from the Marines, not exactly Mother Theresa. In addition, if some of the posters here thing Whelan for Bout was the trade to make, why didn't Trump do it?

It should have been 2:1 deal, but Biden didn’t have the courage to walk away. This is what happens when your politics is based on virtue signaling.

I negotiate $10-50m deals. Your only leverage is to walk away but the pressure to virtue signal to his base was too great. Also note this deal was announced after the midterms. This deal has been on the table for 6 months is my guess, but Biden didn’t have the guts to do it before the midterms. Should have waited another 6 months if he didn’t accept the 1:1 deal 6 months ago. Plainly obvious to me.
