Just read every post. Horrible for everyone involved. Obviously Beard has been great so far for the program but if this is all true, he can't continue to be our coach. He just cant.

This should not affect his job until he is proven guilty in a court of law. He says he is innocent and should be treated that way until proven guilty in a court of law. People should damn sure not believe hearsay that is put in a police report.

I'm not a lawyer, but if an alleged victim describes an incident, is that hearsay?

    :idk:

That's a very difficult situation because his job is so high profile. Just think of all the domestic violence calls around the USA that cops respond to daily. Only one of them made national gossip - errr, news. And because the charges themselves made national gossip, the university has to respond in some way before his case can be adjudicated.

in the hypothetical where he was really only defending himself, i feel for him. if he was slapping, biting, choking a woman during an altercation, i'm not going to find any humor at all in the situation.

I think people found humor in a "reporter" misspelling choked to "chocked". Not the acts of choking or biting themselves.

The fiance admitted to breaking his glasses. Then he apparently snapped. Nobody knows the build-up between them. I've lived the build-up (apparently I've had some colorful history with women) and each time I left. I've been pushed beyond where men would come to blows. I've been spitting nails angry. Veins popping out because it involved not being able to see my children. On Christmas morning. I've seen very mean actions directed towards my parents. Any number of things. The wrong partner can do that to you. I left my children's mother because the tension was unbearable. You have to recognize the situation for what it is. I found the strength to be patient and eventually gained full custody of both my children.

    YOU. JUST. HAVE. TO. LEAVE.

    and i did... everytime.

Your candor is appreciated. Not maybe as intense as yours but Most of us have been in situations that have been tense and I bet most of us felt pushed to act in ways we know we can't. Your policy is the way to go.
It sounds like Beard did not use good sense.
Even if he only tried to restrain he went too far and he should suffer the consequences.

What we don't need is rumor mongering. Posting that police reports Beard "beat" her when that is not what the report I saw said. If you can't provide proof Please stop

What he did allegedly did is reprehensible.
BUT HE IS INNOCENT until proven guilty.
So let's treat him like we would want to be treated

Sometimes the most obvious explanation is the correct one. This was clearly some sort of Big 12 conspiracy and setup...

I took it down. I don't always think things all they way through. Just was trying to figure out the allegation. Not saying her version is the truth.

Trying to restrain someone is very dicey. Bruises are evidence.

I think the alleged victims testimony, in court, would be admissible, not hearsay. But, for this purpose, you may be right. Not sure.

Nonetheless, we are all, once again, being admonished to not speculate in an open forum, not courtroom, as to what may have happened. As if we are little children here.

Does anyone else get tired of that?

Speculation is exactly what we do.
But we should not be spreading rumors as police reports

Yes, I read that same thing.

So, the victim's statements can be used in court.

Not really. I would like a good discussion on the potential consequences and legal ramifications of what we know and the actions of the police, DA and the defense. Speculation becomes illogical and sometimes harmful. It creates groupthink and the highly problematic speculative nature of the human mind is why we have the judicial system in its current form in this country. Not perfect but much better than being tried in the public square. Still this forum has nothing on Surly. That place is poisonous in matters like this.
