yes Ewers had a better game. That means our defense secondary played better on that day than their defensive secondary.
my argument is that given Ewers is so green Card should have been taking most of the snaps limiting Ewers play time, giving him time to learn and adjust without costing us games. While there is no guarantee Card would have won more games for us, he couldn't do worse and I am certain he would have done better.
Evidently, Sark thought it better to play Ewers despite his many failures, for future considerations I suppose.

I am rewatching the game which i couldn't see live. Looking at the huskies second touchdown, first and goal on the six yard line, our cover guy on their receiver is standing one yard in the end zone while their receiver is standing on the seven, that's an eight yard cushion. At the snap the receiver slides over a yard catches the ball and sprints to the front corner for a td. Good grief! how terrible!
let's just give them a touchdown. Why was he playing so far off the receiver?
6:50 mark in the 3rd quarter.

Credit for being better than Penis? I'm not sure that says a whole lot. Penis is a slightly better Frank Harris. He put up big numbers because of the offense he's in and has a great OL. Will be another Andre Ware in the NFL.

I've seen a number of QB's over the last few days that are more impressive than Penis. I was most impressed with Travis at FSU. Has the arm of Trevor Lawrence and runs like Micheal Vick.

It will be interesting to see who Sark rolls on 09 September in Tuscaloosa. Since QE will undoubtedly be the starter on 02 September against Rice, however, all of us on HornFans believe they could be the QB against Rice. Everything equal QE starts against Bama - the question is, who will finish that game?

PKs style of defense. Yes it sucks. Our D was not pourous in this game but we could not get off the field. No one is beating down the door to hire pk away from us. They have a gofundme with over 20m hoping sark stays with him!!

Thanks Vipe, I did some searching and found it too. Always important for me to get the real schedule asap because I reserve hotel dates for every weekend of season then go back and drop the ones not having a home game. It’s interesting because some are cheaper doing it so early but then sometimes I will on occasion get better rates later on in the year.

It’s not as if he got his HS career cut short against his will. He and his dad made that poor decision. So yeah he is extremely raw but for some reason we’re not supposed to care or hold that against him. Remember their plan was he was going to be in the NFL next season. He isn’t supposed to be this raw.

Malik is raw too and he is holding a clipboard and learning.

I'm told by someone I believe has inside info that QE's dad pressured him to leave HS early for NIL, then to portal here same reason. I don't know whether or not that's accurate, but that's what I've heard.

Credit for being the better of the 2 QB’s that game despite the opposing QB had a better OL and a MUCH. better running attack. He would have had over 400 yards, no int, if two beautiful throws were caught.

If you don’t think so, your wrong.

I've wondered if perhaps Card had a conversation with Sark and told him that he was going to transfer.
He may have asked not to be played unless Ewers was injured and unable to therefore holding on to a redshirt season.

Our DBs covered much better than theirs so take that.

The Ewers missed TD on 4th and 1 was easier than either missed Worthy catch.

Penix was great on 3rd and 4th down. He won and that was a major reason.

I’m not even stating who played better but simply pointing out other considerations.

Card still held on PKs but played QB in 6 games so he didn’t retain a redshirt.

Both QBs played equally well enough for their teams to win. Your both wrong.

I’m surprised by the skepticism expressed about Ewers. The skill set has not changed. He is still the same perfect rated passer coming out of SLC.

I saw serious progression in the bowl game. My gosh. How could anyone have missed the two perfect long passes to Worthy? Or the other drop? Aside from injury, I’ll be shocked if he doesn’t perform very well this fall.

He’ll be the starter throughout the year and aside from perhaps a late game appearance or two, I don’t believe we will see Arch Manning until at least 2024.

    About what?
I never declared one way or another. Only one Qb played well enough to win because only one won. Literally. If you want to argue that QE had to play better or significantly better than Penix to win, then ok.

I’m not concerned about stats without context. I do feel as though Penix left points off the board. Ewers did too. Penix missed more throws, but I’m less concerned if you miss on 1st and 2nd if you convert on 3rd. They converted 55% of 3rds and 67% of 4ths. We converted 40% and 50% ( throwing out the last second heave to Cain). That is winning football by UW.

If Ewers isn’t great, we will be around 500, due to not having elite RB’s that he enjoyed this year.
At 500, The firing alarms will be so loud and the stink so bad that Patterson may be too tainted to hire.
The last man on the Sark ship will be looking for a spot on the raft.

It would have to be a complete shitshow at QB and RB not to win 8 games next year.

I stated the best QB in the Alamo bowl.
I was referencing the game and you are talking about one play that if QE made another perfect throw to Worthy what are the chances he catches the ball? 50%?

why did Penix have this success?. Was it because he had a running attack which QE did not have?
It was because WU won both the OL and DL of scrimmages. Penix almost never had pressure QE almost always had pressure.

WU won because they controlled both lines of scrimmage, Texas was in the Game because QE was the better QB.

    Your wrong.

If with the added early signing additions on OL the OL play is better we can get by with less than Bijan and Roschon....

You don't think Cedric Baxter's an elite running back?
He's big enough to possibly step right in.
Our running backs are very good.
Think the jury's out at this point.
Give them a full spring summer and fall camp as starters and then we'll make an assessment.

Sorry, I kept you up so late.

Worthy caught 7 of 8 balls less than 20 air yards. Off the top of my head, he’s dropped 2-3 of those all year on those type routes. He’s caught 60 balls so let’s just say that’s a 95% chance of catching it. You referenced Worthy two balls that were”beautiful.” They weren’t perfect although they must be caught. In the end, those 3 plays killed two drives. One on the QB, one on the WR. Both probable TDs. We had 10 points after 50 minutes of play. We weren’t really in the game because of anything the offense did.

I agree UW won both lines of scrimmage. Penix was good on 3rd and 4th cause he put the ball in catchable spots. Guys caught. Guys blocked. Team football.

Ewers crappiest plays were the 4th down throw to Worthy, the 3rd and 3 to Whittington and a misread on our last FG drive. I do not think pass blocking was an issue on these. All plays that need to be made. At least 2 of 3. That was worth 11 points with the prospect of 7 more.

UW was the better team. No doubt.

    Old65,

I am awake and so am I. Thought I’d throw you a bone on Ewers.

I think he will have a tremendous statistical year next year. His improvement in the pocket and eventually running for firsts was his best versus UW. Non-flashy drive extenders that over time have to be accounted for by the opposition. Keep doing that. QBs will misread or misfire every game, even in well played games. In my opinion the key is to do it on non-drive ending downs. Just give yourself another chance.

He’s got good touch on seams, deep out/corner routes, deep crossing routes. He does make quick reads on routes 5-10 yards downfield. But he needs improvement most everywhere else. That’s to be expected though given his experience and the team around him. Be patient. Work the pocket. Distribute the ball better.

I won’t lie. He will likely never be a favorite of mine - his entrance onto the college scene, his being anointed prematurely, his hair, his licking those damn fingers each play. But he represents my team so I need him to succeed, to play great so that we all achieve desired results.

I don’t need him to be the best QB in any given game. I need him to win every given game. If he wins 12 games, I’ll likely be annoyed with certain plays, certain games, but the ultimate objective is to win. Then if you play hard, are a good rep of the university, and are a good teammate, you’ve done well.

It’s all his in 2023. No excuses. Take it.
