Signing day was yesterday. I haven’t seen anything official from after signing day but prior to that, our class was ranked 9th. Wanted to share one kids tweet…6’8”?!? I’m sure Texas Sports will load up an article soon and as more info comes out we can post here.

Sykora is a total stud on the mound. If we can just have him a few years, that would be great. MLB scouts drool over this pitcher. His fastball is over 100 mph, with control, and some breaking stuff to mix in with the heat.

It’s a free country, and I’ve grown my hair long before, but hopefully Hud Hamilton might decide to visit the Wooten barbershop at some point. :beertoast:

Easton Tumis looks like he’ll be really good on the mound.

Mr Czech (from Illinois)—this State has some good kolaches.

Zaharias comes with plenty of accolades and hails from a very tony neighborhood out West.

I know, the Sykora kid looks really good, in fact there are several studs in this class, i have my fingers crossed but several of these kids are just too talented and going to be tough to get on campus.

I tell you what, if youre a true longhorn fan there is a lot to be excited about, to keep us busy till February, we have a girls basketball team ranked #3 in the country. The boys are no slouches and may be better than their #12 ranking too and of course football has a big game Saturday. I'm going to the girls game tomorrow and the football game Saturday. First girls game I've ever been to and the first football game i've been too in awhile.

I'm wondering if that may be changing. An NIL deal probably pays better than minor league BB.

You were right, I enjoyed the game, sorry I didn’t get to reply sooner. I’ll be back for sure, that’s an amazing venue for basketball.

Glad you enjoyed it, but their games aren’t always that ugly. Lots of newcomers on the team saved the day.

As with every baseball recruiting class its all about who actually makes it on to campus. Pierce has typically done a great job of signing classes the majority of whom don't jump to the pros so I am hopeful this one will hold up as well as years past. I am cautiously optimistic about next year though admittedly getting to Omaha will be tough and take some overachieving. A realistic scenario for next year is finishing in top three of Big XII and maybe getting a top 16 national seed and hoping for a super that is winnable and lets see what happens.

After losing as much talent as we did, your projection makes a lot of sense. But, our newcomers look good and our bullpen may cause less heartburn than last year. Above all, if a starting rotation of Geno, Chuck Nasty, and Zane Morehouse solidifies, this could be the best team in the conference and a Super Regional or even Omaha team.

Sadly, Sykora will be a 1st round draft pick. I just hope, somehow, he's still available wen the Astros pick. More likely a 18-22 pick, IMO

    Evan Miranda
    RHP

    6'3"
    230 lbs
    Orange Lutheran High School, California

Solid fastball now up to 94 mph with good control. Likes to live low in the zone. Curveball with good control. Also throws a Slider in the upper 70s with a very good 2413 RPM spin rate (the MLB avg Slider spin rate is 2430-2530) and a change up in the low 80s.

"Evan is a 1B/RHP who will graduate in 2023. Tall frame athletic build, with thick lower half and strength present. At 1B, he starts with active/efficient feet and presents a big target. Tries to center baseball and shows good glove angle. Long/loose arm action with ability to throw from multiple arm slots. Showed good athleticism as he spins glove side and made accurate/on-line throws to second base up to 88mph. On the mound, he works exclusively from the stretch. Simple/repeatable delivery, with good rear hip coil, and has a fast arm. He throws a heavy ball. 4 pitch pitcher who throws a FB that sits 82-84mph [DATED - per Prep Baseball Report, he's now up to a 94 MPH fastball] at the bottom of the zone, an 10/4 shaped breaking ball, a slider from the same window, and a changeup. FB was his best pitch during his bullpen. "

"Evan Miranda is a 2023 RHP/1B with a 6-3 205 lb. frame from Fontana, CA who attends Orange Lutheran. Large frame with broad shoulders and present physical strength proportioned throughout. Primary right-handed pitcher, slow and methodical tempo to delivery, works with a short arm action through the backside getting to a high three-quarters release, shows a quick shoulder and present feel for working down in the zone to either side of plate. Pounds the strike zone, fastball topped out at 89 mph [DATED - per Prep Baseball Report, he's now up to a 94 MPH fastball] and maintained velocity well, competes in the zone and mixed a curveball with 11-5 shape up to 73 mph with ability to land for strikes."

    Hudson Hamilton
    RHP

    6'1"
    210 lbs
    Grand Oaks HS
    Spring, Texas

Fastball in the low-to-mid 90s that moves, with a 2600 RPM spin rate (that's on a fastball folks...)! Tricky guy with good control who will throw a cutter, and a wicked slider with a "hellacious bite" in the low 80s with a 2700+ RPM spin rate (significantly higher than the average MLB slider spin rate). Gets plenty of strike outs. Also has a change up and a curveball.

With those numbers, he can dye his long hair chartruse for all I care...

The pros may show some interest. Sounds like what we need. Hope he comes to the 40 and sticks around to graduation.

"Hudson Hamilton is a 2023 RHP with a 6-1 210 lb. frame from Spring, TX who attends Grand Oaks. Large frame with good strength to the build. Primary right-handed pitcher, clean delivery with good balance and drive in the lower half, works down the mound well and gets downhill from a higher slot, compact arm stroke. Very fast arm, generates big spin on the fastball into the 2600s, cuts it some at times, up to 90 at this event but has been steadily low-90s through the summer and fall, peaking at 93 in long looks. Hellacious bite to the slider and mimics intent on it, 2700+ RPMs and spun in the low-80s, true swing-and-miss offering now and for the next level. Pounds the zone with both offerings and can really command both pitches to either side, more in there long-term but already a loud power-arm profile with some potential draft intrigue going into the spring. Committed to Texas. Named to 2022 High School All State Top Prospect List."

    Cole Selvig
    RHP

    6'0"
    192 lbs
    Regis HS
    Altoona, Wisconsin

Fastball in the low-to-mid 90s. Works a slider for a strike out pitch. Good control. Likes to work the inside of the zone. Also throws a curveball.

Cole Selvig is a 2023 RHP/3B with a 6-0 192 lb. frame from Altoona, WI who attends Regis HS. Medium frame with some strength present and room to add more. Primary right-handed pitcher who only pitched during the event. Full arm action with the fastball working in the 90-93 mph range. Pushes hard off the back leg with some effort at release. Sets hitters up with the fastball and throws the slider for strikes a lot. Tucks the slider in on the hands of right-handed hitters, adept at landing the pitch there. Holds velocity well and the slider works as an out pitch for him. Impressive polish in terms of offspeed feel. Great student. Verbal commitment to Texas.

+ Rising up one spot to No. 5 overall on this list [top baseball recruits from Wisconsin] is RHP Cole Selvig (Regis; Texas). Selvig helped lead Eau Claire Regis to the D3 state playoffs last spring and rode some of that momentum into a productive summer circuit. The 6-foot, 192-pound Longhorns commit starred this winter at the Madison Preseason ID, showing out as one of the event’s top arms. Our scouts had this to say about his performance there:

“... Selvig has been trending up and his uptempo drop-and-drive delivery matches the intensity at which he pounds the zone. He showed the ability to command the fastball at 88-90 mph, topping at 91. The breaking ball flashed sharp action while working on an 11/5 plane, almost slurve-like at times, but he was able to repeatedly control it. His changeup has advanced feel and flashed plus arm-side action at times with a convicted arm stroke.”

    Hayden Morris
    RHP

    Conroe Oak Ridge HS
    6'8"
    255 lbs

Fastball in the low-to-mid 90s. Throws a curveball and changeup as well. A fiery competitor on the mound.

Immediately below is what an Astros scout has to say about Hayden Morris:

"We’re going to move quite a bit further from the heart of the city here to take a look at another recent riser here in the form of 6’8” righty Hayden Morris, a Longhorns commit out of Conroe with big swing and miss stuff. He uses his huge frame to his advantage, creating an uncomfortable angle for hitters with his release point, and shows some very good feel for spin as well. The heater plays up from its raw velo in the low-90s thanks to the angle and arm side life, and he has shown three different secondaries to back it up, though the slider has fallen away a bit in favor of his curveball and change as of late.

Morris is 255 lbs., but there’s still room for the body to develop in terms of composition, and he’s got more twitch than your typical hurler of this size. It’s an uptempo delivery with some head movement, but his arm action is conducive to strike throwing, so he’ll be viewed as a potential rotation arm early in his career, whether he ends up in Austin or pro ball for his next stop. He’s certainly a rare breed, and could be worth the trip north to take a peek before he’s pitching on the big stage."

    Hayden Morris | Five Tool
the "Five Tool" link immediately above has a video of Hayden pitching for the "Dodgers Scout Team". Based on this limited action at least, he appears to like to live high in the zone, and isn't afraid to come inside--for a strike on the inside corner or to back off and intimidate the batter. He's got an overhand delivery, and at his height and arm length, there's a noticeable natural drop to the ball--even on his fastballs. Kind of like our LBJ. A bit more pronounced than LBJ even, with Hayden Morris standing 6'8" and with long arms.

D1 Baseball has our incoming transfer class (to play this year) as #19 in the nation.
They believe Guiliemette is ready to go Day 1. He had 17 multi-hit games in 2022 at USC.

Wow, this is an interesting spot to watch and has been the most interesting to me before this post, catcher, 1B, and at DH to see who comes out on top. I suspect there will be some rotating early on. I wasn't sold on the job being given to Schuessler or Guiliemette, I think Rylan Galvan may have a little something to say about this position. However, i figured the one that lost the starting position may either fill in at 1b or as the DH. I wasn't overly impressed with Scheussler behind the plate but hes had another year to work on this position, so we will see. Also, there are a lot of options for DH besides one of these guys and DH is the other position Im excited to watch to see who rises to the occasion at that position, it will be an important position this year, in order to make up for the loss of Ivan and Hodo, we need every bat to have as high an average as possible.

Yep, and you can add Murph (approx. 0.400 batting avg) and Messinger (approx. 0.350 batting avg) as big bats to replace. And the level of power we got from the SS position with Faltine will be difficult to replace.

Basically, last year's offense was ridiculous. This year, LSU may be the only major team that will look about like we did last year on offense.

I suspect it will be Guillemette starting at catcher, with a decent amount of rotation--especially mid-week.

    But I could be wrong.

Head of the Class: No. 9 Texas | Perfect Game USA

Perfect Game gives their overview of our Class of 2023 signees.

    A few tidbits quoted below:

"One of the more intriguing pulls for this recruiting class was done way up north in Wisconsin. UT was able to grab another power-throwing arm in Cole Selvig (No. 125). Cole has a medium build and frame with some current strength and projects to be able to add more. He has a full swing arm action that leverages his fastball in the 90-93 mph range and a slider he can throw for strikes a lot. Cole will be another good add to the new pitching coach’s staff."

    ...

"Rounding out PG’s top-200 ranked players coming out of this class to the University of Texas are Hayden Morris (No. 163), Easton Tumis (No. 170) ... Morris and Tumis are bringing a pair of right-handed arms that also bring low-90s heat and will only continue to develop with the pitching coach and rest of the staff."
