A girl made the Brown U baseball team

Olivia Pichardo (Utility player & RHP) has made the team at Brown U in Rhode Island. First time this has happened in D-1 college baseball. In addition to being a good player, she interned with the New York Mets amateur scouting department. U go gurl!

Watch out Providence. There could be something much bigger behind all this. Somewhere in the ocean deeps, Cthulhu is stirring…

 

politics and political correctness aside, I have always thought that the most talented female players might legitimately be able to get on to a HS team or perhaps a lower level college team in baseball because of how unique it is. It will be interesting to see how she does and if that blazes a trail for the really high end female players to perhaps have a shot. Unlike basketball, football and some other sports where biology just means zero chance as get to HS level, baseball is unique in that opportunity for the top end female players to perhaps have that shot at least through lower level college ball.

Ok, here's the real Olivia Pichardo (Brown, Util & RHP)

 

I've got it. If she bats over 0.325 or has an ERA <2.75 for her Ivy League career, we portal her into the 40 acres as a grad transfer when she's done with her Sr. year at Brown (interestingly enough, Brown actually has something of an "easy" school reputation despite its lofty ranking).

I don't think we'll have to worry about the MLB draft taking her...

 

I agree and have been saying this for many years. Of the big 3 sports, girls have by far the best chance to compete with men in baseball. The problem is that hardly any high schools will even allow a girl on their team because they do not want to have to provide separate facilities for the girls. Here in Drippin, there was a girl that played Pony League ball that my boys played with and against over the years. She was always the best player on the team. When she got to HS, the coach told her she had to play softball because they could not accommodate a female on the boys team. She played softball, but her heart wasn't in it, so she was not the standout she was in baseball. It was a shame. I say parents have to demand for girls to be allowed on the baseball team as long as they are good enough. It's only then that there will be any kind of pool of female players for college baseball coaches to look at.

 

She started playing baseball as a little kid in Queens, NY, and just never quit. Pretty soon, she was the only girl on the team(s). I think in the field and at bat are her best chances at the college level. Those long, slow, looping curveballs you see at around 0:30-0:35 on the video look pretty cool, but the batters at this level will likely crush that. Fastball up to 82 mph. However, I think she may end up getting quite a bit of playing time in the field and at the plate during her 4 years at Brown.

I've seen many softball players who I know could compete at the plate just as well as men. The problem usually lies in the speed. A majority of the good hard hitters are not exactly the most agile players.

 

And commentators don’t like to refer to a young woman as a “lumbering slugger.”

 

Or a rolling ball of butcher knives!

 

Only when you criticize her cooking.

 

So what kind of NIL deal can we get to get her on the Texas SB team?
