Started watching with Texas up 9 then immediately went 7 straight no score possessions….. and counting. I better turn tv off. I’m obviously the cause.
Horns led most all the way and finish with big free throws and defensive stops to close out 76-71 win.
Baylor had won 7 straight. They are a top 20 team. Congratulations Horns on another hard fought impressive win.
Rice is probably the best player on the team. He's been there and done that. Singlehandedly took NMSU to the wire against the Pigs in the tournament last year. Timmy Allen might have something to say about that, but thank goodness we have both of them I think Terry told Hunter that he needs to just find his shot, hence the free-for-all we witnessed from him tonight. Carr was noticeably off the ball... BU did a good job making sure he wasn't the last pass or last guy to have it with time running out on the shot clock. I don't think anyone wants to jinx it, but we're still a good team. Top 10 in the NCAA NET rankings. We'd be better with Beard, but at least there's no shame in any of our losses.
Incredibly important win over a Baylor team that has flat owned Texas for the better part of the last decade. Going into the weekend/Monday with games against two ranked and very hot teams, winning one was key and the Horns did it. Next weekend is an even tougher hill with two road games against ranked teams and if the Horns can get at least one of them they will be fantastically situated to challenge for the Big XII regular season and a high seed in the tourney. I cant remember a regular season conference win I was this happy about in a while which tells you how long Baylor has just owned Texas.
Great win. Given Beard's implosion, this team is doing quite well. I never thought it was a national championship team anyway, so to be positioned at the top with such a stellar record is a credit to our coach. I just hope we can hang on to our recruits.
My wife and I watched the last few minutes of that game. Iowa State took the most ridiculous shots at the end. My heart wanted Tech to go 0-9 but my brain said the Clones need a third loss.
I switched over to the tceh game too. I don't like seeing them win a thing, regardless of if it helps the Horns or not. That feeling was cemented as I watched GAP Kid Jr run on the court and try to chest bump one of their players. That fanbase sickens me.
My wife and I cracked up when Tech player was dramatically motioning crowd to hush during free throws. Gym was half empty
In case anyone missed it, Texas is momentarily in sole possession of first place in the conference at the mid point of the schedule.
Hard to say for sure whether the team would be any better as the roster does have certain limitations. I think the team would play better with Beard as Terry would still be there in his role as an assistant. Without Beard the coaching staff dynamic changed down the line. I don't think we would have gotten boat raced by KSU with Beard. I doubt Beard would have finished the ISU game after the dirty intentional undercut against Mitchell that wasn't called, and who knows what effect that would have had. Still may not have won either of those games. Probably still lose against ugly orange ut.
OK, maybe I was thinking more about who we've lost to rather than by the metric of allowing a million points at home. At least it wasn't Seton Hall or something for once. While KSU is probably going to lose to KU tonight, I still think they're a top-15 team. Tennessee is going to be a #1 seed in the tournament if Barnes keeps it up. It's funny that the neutral site Illinois game is now looking like the "bad" loss even though it felt like we were due at the time.
Looking at the next five games- @KSU, @KS, WVU, @TT, OU- would you be happy if we went 3-2 over that stretch. I think I will be thrilled if we can do that. Would not be surprised if we finish with 7 conference losses at the end of the season.
Need to take a snapshot of the Big 12 hoops standings right now. Texas men’s and women’s are at the top. I think the women have a better shot at finishing at the top. The men have KU, TCU, Bailer, TTU and KSU on the road. the Men’s gets real tough Saturday and Monday. Their schedule was really back loaded.
Wow- Ok I have to be honest, I haven't followed the women closely in the last month. I know Vic had the gals off to a bit of a slower than expected start. Great to hear they are on top. I did see that 2 weeks ago for the first time in the history of the AP Top 25 Women's ranking, there was not a team from the state of Texas in the top 25.
The WBB team has the exact same record after 22 games as they did last year when they made the Elite Eight for the second year in a row. Some of us are old enough to remember with the Men and Women were in the Final Four at the same time. It remains a possibility this season (ironically both FF’s are in Texas this year with Dallas and Houston hosting).
