I'm sure hoping we bring it to this one. I'm concerned about the way we match up, as I do feel they're a little better offensively from all three levels. It's going to take our best to beat them.

Their full court press against Drake caused me to swallow hard.

I just don't think we have enough shooting/scoring offensively to matchup against them. And as @HornView mentioned, I think their full court press will cause us problems. For a team who also presses, we don't seem to know how to consistently beat the press for whatever reason.

Yes, and they score it from everywhere on the floor. Against their defense... we are not a good, cerebral passing team and we have only one player who can handle against pressure. I hope like hell we fix that for the coming seasons.

What we DO have is home court advantage which is no small thing this time of the year especially if we fans do our part.

I'm not saying we can't win this game because we absolutely can. What I am saying is that we are going to have to play well... it's going to take a complete game (scoring, rebounding, defense, free throws, minimize turnovers) for an entire game (all four quarters).

After the dramatic turn of events last night at Maples Pavilion, this game suddenly becomes a HUGE opportunity. I'm sure hoping we're able to answer that knock.

I remember watching Louisville beat a Griner-led Baylor team in the Final Four years ago.
Their defensive style is similar to Texas. They’re tough. However I think playing at the Moody gives Texas the advantage.

You're right. We're going to need to be really tough and also TAKE CARE OF THE BALL.

I have to agree with Kurupt and say the bucks stops here for Texas. Louisville has picked itself up at the right time and looks just as formidable to me as they did last year when they were in the final four. Would love to be proven wrong.

An unusually large number of Hornfans posters expect us to lose and don't mind saying so. Not surprising given how mediocre we looked in the Big 12 final and several other games. Morris is back, but is she really? I hope players don't read this message board (I'm quite sure they don't). This defeatism is kind of a bummer. I think we have a very decent change to beat Louisville.

I just don't know. The best thing Texas has going is the game is in Austin, and generally Texas has been tough at home. If this were anywhere but Austin, yes I would be predicting Loserville.

Yea the handwringing over a first round game at home had me a little surprised. We have a good team, but as Vic always points out and we know all too well, just not consistent.

I honestly feel like it has been because of all the in & outs with injuries. This team has rarely had any time together as a WHOLE to work together from Day 1, so inconsistency is exactly what you’d expect. Add that to all the new players into the program and there you have the makings of an inconsistent season.

I still like our chances tonight, but we are basically seeded equally and those games tend to go either way in this tournament. Everyone keeps saying we basically have to play perfect to win and that might be true, but I say only if Louisville plays perfect will that be required. I’m sure Texas is going into this game focused and confident they can win.

    1. Coach Vic is a great mastermind at planning an attack. I think he has had enough time to prepare our team for Louisville.
    2. Sonya's return is important to relieve the pressure on the freshman, to step in when someone is in foul trouble, and to do so with experience and minimal errors. The freshman are still tentative and throw that ball away so easily.
    3. No game in this tourney is secure, especially when a few players get hot. You cannot let a team hang around because one or two plays cause a loss at the end of the game (Stanford)..
    4. Two games in the last month were uncharacteristically poor from this team. It can happen to any team, I just hope several players can step up.
    5. Refs in the tourney are so different in the games. Some call every touch and others let the game go. That may be the difference here. If it is the same crew as last Saturday, it will be tightly called game. That may help us.

Great points made here! I don't worry about Ol' Vic... as you stated he's a master game planner. It's the execution part of that game plan that concerns me. I'm most worried about our taking care of the ball.

I get why everyone is a bit nervous for this game as am I but, I am confident in our ability. We didn’t have Harmon in our first matchup and in my opinion she’s the best on ball defender in the country and she will be on Hailey tonight for sure.

With the speed of Harmon I don’t think they want to run that full court trap. It’s close to impossible to trap Harmon due to her being so low to the ground and quick. This game will come down to staying out of foul trouble and our ability to execute on the dribble drive because they do seem to be a bit chaotic defensively. A lot of energy but also have a lot of breakdowns after a few sets.

I have seen Rori get into trouble on traps too often this year to agree with this.

Agreed.. and I think that they may do something to try to force Harmon to give the ball up. Trapping has a way of doing that.

It's less about defeatism and more about reality. Their overall guard play vs ours is better. And with Jeff Walz coaching, he's going to do things that exploits our weaknesses. Such as the full court press and other things in the half court. I've said from the beginning that Louisville is a bad matchup.

UT sent out a blast that UT students will be admitted free. I know they were collecting $10 for student tickets. I assume a booster offered to buy tickets for every student who wants to attend. The general admission section was pretty empty during the first game with the reserved seats pretty occupied. Hope for the largest crowd this season.

For sure she has but that was against players who are close to her in speed. Louisville has some good guards but they aren’t quick like Harmon. Watch as most of the time those traps will result in a foul from Harmon splitting the double

You could see in the 2nd half Louisville went to a zone at times and looked a bit winded. I’m more worried about our zone offense then their full court defense. Going to need Holle, Morris, and Gonzales to hit open shots because they will be there.

We also have to remember we had Moore in that last game and she had a great night. Hopefully Gaston comes ready to play because we are going to need her on the boards and in the paint.

Is it too late to get tickets? I’ve been looking but every website I go to it says they are unavailable :(

Break their press early and often and get easy baskets, they’ll either back off or get smoked!

I’m not nervous. Maybe I should be, but I feel pretty good about how we will match up against Louisville. Limit Carr and Jones. Our points in the paint should be the difference.
