Anybody else get queasy every time you see there are new posts in this thread? If any Longhorns enter the portal I wish they’d just go ahead a rip the bandaid off.

After having some Texas players quit and transfer out of school as the season starts, I'm over worrying about losing players to the portal. Giveth and Taketh.

Not sure if Donarski said something initially about why she was transferring, but a head coach should just bite his tongue if they are not being provoked out on social media into making a (defensive) comment.

With only two spots open I am sure Vic is about to be real picky about who he brings in. I see us bringing in two guards. Backup point guard and a two guard who can stretch the floor.

That would be unusual to lose any players to the transfer portal (although we really did with Kyndall); could be a sign that everyone else is here for what's best for the team as a whole. So, that leaves 2 openings.

If JJ Quinerly comes, I think that's the best we could ask for (instant starter) based on our most critical needs and who is in the transfer portal at the moment (assuming JJ is in it). What she could add to our team: quickness, athleticism, elite defender, backup PG skills, transition improvement, shooting, Big 12 experience and maturity. In some ways, she takes the exact spot many of us thought Kyndall would fill and same class of 2021.

She'd be a junior; assuming she stays 2 seasons, that would impact the 2024 scholarship numbers; but, it would also mean we wouldn't need another player (transfer or high school) with PG skills for the 2024-25 season.

With that last 'ship? Vic says "you win with guards". We still need some more experienced back court depth. I'd prefer a (grad) transfer combo guard with only one season of eligibility so as not to impact the 2024 scholarship numbers any further. Need quickness for sure and the ability to play defense or it could be a tough go finding time on the court. We definitely need someone who can make perimeter shots, but finding all those skills that I listed in someone who most likely wouldn't be a starter won't be easy.

I checked WVa's academic calendar and their spring semester ends with finals the week of May 1st-5th (so they'll be done in only about 5 weeks from now). With Texas being so unpopular at other Big12 programs, it wouldn't surprise me if JJQ waited until she finished this semester before publicly making it clear she might be looking around.

That could very well be the case, although I don't see that affecting women's hoops; plus, if she and her Dad are going to follow a lot of Texas coaches and players on Instagram, fans other programs are just as likely to see what we've been seeing. That's not exactly keeping things on the downlow.

It just surprises me that if she has entered the transfer portal, that it hasn't been leaked; it doesn't have to come from her to become public knowledge. And, even though I am speculating that she might have made an official visit to Texas this past weekend, there is no way that would have been allowed unless she was officially in the transfer portal.

Considering they (WVU) are trying to find a coach, I don't think there's anyone left in the coaches offices to worry about losing JJQ.

With VA Tech making the Final Four, it may make them an attractive destination in spite of the fact Blacksburg is a small town up in the Appalachians (very much like WVU). Their facility is 60+ yrs old (1962) and WVUs facility was built in 1970. Hopefully JJ wants a totally different environment and state of the art facilities.

Hopefully, but she's from VA. She may decide she likes Blacksburg better than Austin. VT in the final 4 is a huge threat.

VA Tech is also in the ACC which makes most conference games within reasonable driving distance from Norfolk. Again... sure hope she wants something totally different.

I would think any school in close proximity would be a logical choice for JJ's services. But, I haven't seen any coaches or players from those schools follow her on social media, or vice versa; perhaps they have and I missed it. I still find it so odd that it seems to be all Texas follows/followings. As we have noted, she might have entered the portal and selected the 'Do not contact' option; that could explain why we aren't see the attention on her IG from other programs.

@Moooooo I'm wondering... is a player required to enter the portal before perhaps making an UNOFFICIAL visit since both teams seasons are complete? I don't know the answer.

Speaking of Virginia Tech, I recall a couple of years ago when Carleigh Wenzel out of San Antonio listed a group of finalists for her signature; we weren't one of them, and neither was Va Tech. Out of nowhere, she makes a commitment to the Hokies as she thought that was the best fit for her. Prior to the start of this season, it was announced by their coach that she would redshirt her first year based on lack of expected playing time. She might love it there and just waiting her time, or she might end up deciding she needs a change. Supposedly, she's a very good shooter.

Once a school submits your name into the transfer portal, that is the equivalent of giving a player their full release (like prior to the creation of the portal). Regardless if a player wants to make an official or unofficial visit elsewhere, they can't do so until they are actually in the transfer portal. That's my understanding.

Don't recall seeing their names in this thread but WVU players G Savannah Samuel and F Isis Beh are showing as "OUT" on the WBBBlog.

Racerx, that would have been a dream come true. Celeste fit the needs of the program.

Just 1 but it’s very weird because our other recruit A.J Johnson was the only 5 star left out of the game. He was looked over because of Bronny James. I’m sure it’s based on ratings and ticket sales because Bronny is on commitment watch but still wrong how of all the players he was the only one left out.

In her Portal announcement, thanked her teammates, the fans - did not mention the coaches at all.

    Fifth player!

Not trying to dump on ISU and their coach, but a few years ago when I watched him up close at home games, I would see him TEARING into his players when he called a timeout. Mike Carey had the same behavior with his players. When I wondered out loud on this forum why there weren't more transfers from his team at the end of each season, several people pointed out that his game time persona and his every day gym persona might be completely different and the fireworks during the games didn't bother the players. But.....I don't know, maybe players aren't putting up with it anymore?
