I don't normally watch these types of movies. By normally I mean, never! I know the Pope doesn't have an Exorcist, nor does the Vatican, so I assumed this movie was just another over the top Hollywood creation. I assumed correctly. Saw a Russell Crowe interview where he stated this was basically just a horror movie....very little authenticity, so I won't bother watching it.

Nefarious on the other hand......I heard this was well done and with an intellectual approach to demonic possessions. Plus I'm a big fan of Father Carlos Martins, who is an Exorcist and was involved in working with the Director of this movie for accuracy. It has received a 97% audience rating....whatever that means. I'll probably go watch this one. Maybe.

Any reviews from you who have watched these?

A buddy of mine said Nefarious was pretty well done and somewhat biblically accurate. I haven’t seen it yet.

I forgot to add that Nefarious is based on a fictional writing by a Protestant Pastor. I forget his name.

@Horn hubby Thanks....I'm sure I'll go watch it.

This kind of stuff is fascinating. I remember after watching The Exorcist with a buddy in the 70s we walked home from the theater and I don’t think I have ever been so scared as that night. Part of the walk was a dark street behind our school with no street lights, just pasture on either side. And noises. F that.

So many options to "insert name here" and that's just from the Baptist and nondenominational churches.

From Fr. Martins’ social media post- A zinger of a comparative review between "The Pope's Exorcist" and "Nefarious." And by a secular reviewer, no less.

It has been a long time since I have read a piece this articulate and precise.

"Basically, 'The Pope's Exorcist' is everything people dislike about Hollywood: It has nothing to say and all the money to say it. 'Nefarious,' on the other hand, has something to say, and it leans into it with the force of a sledgehammer ... If faith-based films can continue to improve in their method of delivery like this movie does, they will be a valuable force in American cinema."

    Wow.

If you have not gone to see the movie, folks, do so this week. If the turnout is low in the first week of release, cinema companies will begin cutting theatres or remove the picture altogether.
