This is for diving. We need to replenish. We lost two divers to the portal.

EDIT: Turns out those two divers are coming back as well!!!

This is a transfer from Georgia. Fly A finalist. She’ll be in Austin this year for one season (I believe.

someone help me because I’m confused. Is Shaine Casas on our team? I know he entered the portal and was coming to Texas but I guess he just decided to train in Austin. Will he be competing in a Texas uniform next season?

I’m guessing he is enrolled at Texas. But my understanding is that he turned pro.

Now, I will say that the press release announcing the Longhorns competing here did mark him as incoming. I assumed it was a typo.

He’s definitely training with Eddie and the team (just as Leah Smith is with Carol). But I would not expect him. Maybe though?

that’s what I thought but in this press release it says “the newest member of the mens swim team”. If you look him up it says he has turned pro so everything about this is confusing me.

Katie Ledecky is training at UF with Nesty and they seem to list her that way as well. But she obviously went pro after Stanford.

It does seem confusing. And unlike other sports. Getting a good pro group in your pool seems to be a huge recruiting advantage for a sport that doesn’t have a lot of scholarship money.

But maybe Casas didn’t “go pro”. Of course that language means less now because of NIL stuff. Maybe you can “be pro” but it can fall into NIL territory and you keep your eligibility. But it’s odd if he does swim this season that he didn’t swim last season.
