I think that I think MM is pretty good.

media is building QE into a first round choice. Man I hope that happens. But did they watch last year's games? It would be a great improvement in performance. We shall see.

Lest we forget that Ewers was essentially a freshman last year.

Yea, I still don't buy this.
Not to bash Ewers and I hope he has a great year.
But before arriving here he spent a full season at one of the top programs in the country.
He didn't see the field much but he was at all practices.
He was in the same QB room as a Hypesman candidate and second overall pick.
You would think he was soaking up Stroud's work ethic and study habits.
He had a year of training under the same QB coach as Stroud.
He wasn't some blank slate freshman coming in here.
Or at least he shouldn't have been.

Vol Horn 4 Life Good Bye To All The Rest!

He skipped his senior season and didn't play at OSU all while raking in the NIL money. He basically said he had to refocus on the game after the way last year went. Champions don't lose focus because the drive to be the best won't let them.

In my opinion he'll be good until he runs into controversy then he'll go back into a shell like the TCU game last year where he was practically crying on the sidelines. He had no business leading the team that night but there was nobody else to put out there. This year we do so we'll see what happens.

Regardless of age ( and factually the dude is young) or school year classification, the facts are Ewers
-as a HS jr missed 6 games due to an injury.
-had no game experience as a HS Sr. Playing the role of a college FR.
-started in a big time P5 QB in a new system his FR year.
    - This is year 2 for a high quality person not withstanding a highly talented kid.

    Now my opinion-
    Relax.
it’s absurd to expect Ewers to be at the junior level of a Colt or VY based upon the LACK of big time game experience. How quickly fans forget the struggles that Colt or VY had early on.
He would be nuts to go pro next year regardless of the season he has this year.
He did very, very, very well last year. Dam I’m glad he’s our QB.

Again, I guess you could call it his red shirt freshman year but it was not his freshman year. He had a year under his belt at a big time P5 program.
Granted not as a starter but still having access to all they had to offer.
And again, I'm not here to bash Ewers. I'm just not agreeing with these statements.

Yeah, I think you need to remove at least one or two of those "verys"
    Maybe all three.

I put the TCU offensive debacle mostly on Sark. While our D was playing like the 86 Chicago Bears, when the opposing teams stacks the box with up to 8 (or even 9) to stop the run, the play-caller has to pivot. That means short, quick passes, and creativity. Even if Ewers was mediocre, with Worthy, Sanders & Whittington, even a mediocre QB should be able to move the team.

Again, it was not Ewers’ finest hour, but had the play-caller adjusted properly to the defense, I have little doubt that he would have been effective moving the team in that game.

I do understand your points. I just woke up and wrote the shotgun verys.
Man I fought for Colt, VY, Sam before and there was a faction that felt the backup(s) were better.
I really like this kid. His dream was to play at UT and I have a soft spot for that as well.
I do feel he has taken too much criticism from the fickle UT fan base.

If his dream was to play at the University of Texas then why did he decommit.
Left a bad taste in my mouth.
Sure. He ended up here anyway but he's going to have to win and prove something to me.
I saw flashes last year and hopefully those turn into a full time progression this year. I'll be rooting for him.
Got nothing against the kid at all.
Sure like the way Murphy looked in that spring game though.
I hope Ewers kills it this season.

    I hear you moon.
A person who worked for me’s son (sorry for the grammar) played with QE and knew his family well. I sat with his parents by complete coincidence when he was a SO at Southlake T an DKR game and that’s how I know his dream.
Man, I’m treading lightly here and am not speaking from any inside info- but if I had to guess , there were two reasons for decommittng.

    2. Herman

Regarding Murphy, wow. That dude exceeded what I expected in the spring game. My hope is UT gets up early on some games and we get a heavy dose of Murphy.

My hope is we see him in games even when the game is still on the line.
I think it would be a great change of pace and screw with defensive coordinators.

    You’re right.
I’ve stated before that it would be great to see a heavily leveraged 2nd team squad with a 5 play package that changes every week.
    Against Rice… it’s the wildcat
Against Bama… maybe a series of PA slants while Bama thinks it’s a wildcat.
Like I said before, that’s why my coaching career ended with 3rd graders 30 years ago.
I did run a fumblerooskie and a classic Statue of Liberty that killed the better teams we played.

    We all know two things.

One... QE played a bit at osu two seasons ago so last season was technically his 2nd season.

Two... QE should have been in high school that year. So he actually got fewer reps at osu than he would have had he stayed in school.

I'm not driving the nfl draft kool-aid yet, but it's my opinion throwing a kid into elite college football can actually be negative for him. 280 pound men crashing into him.

Imo leaving high school for osu early did him a disservice. Hoping coach can get him right.

    predictions

    1) I really believe QE will play well this coming season. I think he and the receivers will be more on the same page.
    2) Murphy won't play all that much and he certainly won't get quality time on the field. Only if QE gets hurt will Murphy get quality time.
Murphy’s play in the spring game was inspiring, however, playing in a real game which counts for something is an entirely different animal. The jury is still out on him.

Yeah well he could have stayed committed and stayed in high school one more year to see how things went.
I think he decided to chase the money.

I disagree because he hadn’t had on field in game playing time in two years—as a 16 year old high school junior.
No amount of being “in the room” can replace in game full speed on the field experience. I expect he will be much better this year. The game should slow down for him. Plus he will have a better more experienced OL.
We are fortunate to have MM as a backup. He is a gifted athlete and I hope he stays here.

He wasn't even at the level of freshman Colt. But then Colt is one of the top 10 passers in cfb history so probably not a fair standard to hold anyone too.

At his best, he looked really good.

I disagree with that overall. He did very well in a couple of games, ok in several, and awful in a couple.

QE reminds me of a Kirk Cousins. 50% of the time he looks amazing, 25% of the time he looks capable, and the rest he looks like he took the under. He can make some amazing throws and make them look easy. I think he might be an Ebby Calvin LaLouche. I'm not real confident that quality depth is good for his confidence.

I think his problem last year was there was no real competition with Murphy hurt and Card a sure transfer.
No one was nipping at his heels to take his job.
With Manning on campus and Murphy healthy and obviously a qualified quarterback, I think it will light a fire under QEs butt.

Murphy reminds me of the urban legend about Thurman Thomas/Barry Sanders. Supposedly Switzer told the defense, whatever you do, don't hurt Thurman because we don't want to try to tackle Sanders.
