In response to the notion that Bill Clinton was the first black president, Obama says he'll have to investigate Bill's ability to dance before he can verify if he is a "brotha". Because obviously, no whitie can dance.

I wonder what other racial stereotypes Obama believes in? I'm sure white men can't jump is a given. It would be interesting to see if he thinks all the typical stereotypes about black people are as funny to him.

Some people really work at finding stuff to get upset about.

I am not going to be a victim. I am not going to be a victim... I am not going to pretend I am a victim....

Yeah, its serious. I am very close to 2 people that have spent a ton of time, money and effort training, learning and practicing for careers in dancing. One has a full time career, the other is getting closer. A career in that field may be something you laugh at, and to be honest, if I wasn't close to these people I probably would have felt the same way. But when I hear someone who is running for president make fun of a real life barrier these people face, it is serious to me.

I've seen that same prejudice keep qualified people from getting auditions and certain positions. So to hear someone go on and on about MLK and his dream, then make a comment that runs 180 degrees in the opposite direction of that dream, makes me think they might have missed the message.

So you might think any career associated with dancing isn't very serous, hell you might think being prejudiced isn't all that serious. But it hit close to home for me.

    Dude,
Did you miss the memo? There is no such thing a 'reverse racism' White people can't be discriminated against. It is in the definition.

Look, this is pure sillyness to me. Obama was making a joking comment and I don't take it seriously or personally. I just will say that no way you can say 'Black people can't..." finish that anyway you want and it is a racist or bigoted statement.... or so they say... That is the point I think should be made. ALL people need to lighten up.

Obama did a 60 Minutes interview way back at the beginning of his campaign and the issue of him being "black enough" was raised. His answer hit a nerve with me, "People don't question my blackness when I'm hanging in the barbershop or playing basketball." It's as if he had to answer with a stereotype to have people believe he is "black enough". Stereotypes are around not because they are true but because people believe them...but sometimes they're true.

Maybe I missed it, but when exactly did Obama say that white people can't dance. It seems to be quoted in the title of this thread.

Obama was nudged to say something funny and dumb just by the way the assertion was framed that Clinton was the first black president. A dumb notion deserves a dumb response.

And ******* face it, in general, black people can dance a whole helluva lot better than their white counterparts; at least that's true for this whitey.

I thought it was funny. It was just a joke. He was asked a stupid question that he answered with a joke. I thought it was about the best he could do.

I don't care what the title says. The original poster was making a gross generalization about a comment that Obama made. This whole thread is ******* stoopid.
