Funny only because it comes from Mrs. DeSantis.

Hence why the Republican Party should never be trusted for anything.

I don't agree with that sentiment at all and not just because I'm not a fan of Trump.

    1. Having a few competitors (even if DJT is way ahead in polls) is what democracy is about. Foregone conclusions don't always make great candidates.
    2. having a black man, an Indian man and an indian-ish woman touting the GOP brand is a huge help when it comes to independents. Many of them care very much about the GOP=White Men perception.
    3. Most of these people are trying out for VP. Getting them out there on the stump is the best way to vet them.
    4. it may also demonstrate to independents that the GOP is all-Trump, all the time. And in so doing, it may help keep a few in the camp even if DJT wins.

A few weeks with a large pool of candidates is a good thing ....IF....
    - They don't start to take it nasty against each other
    - They recognize reality within a few weeks and don't tip our collective canoe while they are trying to stay afloat during an extended run.
    - and keep the spending to modest levels so that there is cash for a later day

Seems like Desantis is the presumed next president.

If DeSantis wins the nomination, it’s over. Not going to be close.

Dems will ramp up the cheating. If Republicans just sit back and let it happen not even RR 2 can beat the dem candidate whoever it may be.

But, but, he's just so darn uncharismatic. I mean, look at Biden, come on, man!

Well, we both know that Biden didn't get 81 million votes.

It's looking like it's going to take Trump going to jail for DeSantis to beat Trump.

I am not a gambler but I do like Horse racing

Front runners sometimes win. The betting favorites do too

    just as often they don’t

this race is just now loading

it is a long way from actually starting

I don’t like any of the horses from either party except for a couple who won’t run

the race is not started, much less over

    Certainty is a crutch

Ever been a racetrack and look at the horses? You can pick winners just looking at them, the same way stars stand out at warm-up before athletic contests. Maybe there are flaws not yet exposed - in that part I agree with you.

IMO, this is because of the attribute that DJT lacks and Desantis has. DJT was not a team player and did a poor job of mustering the GOP to get big things done. Desantis seems more like a guy that knows he needs the rest of the team to make real and lasting policy change. he won't throw the rest of his team under the bus just to make himself look good.

This is massively true. You'll notice that Trump is basically all negative all the time on Desantis. Desantis isn't really doing that to Trump. He'll make comments here and there, but his focus is almost entirely on policy.

Why is it every poll I see has Trump crushing DeSantis?
I know Trump has been his usual, all insult, all the time, about DeSantis, and DeSantis has just begun to share his vision, but man.
I'm worried. I fear that some Trumpers are too dug in to vote any other way.
    Someone make me feel better!

The first primaries are 9 months away. Also the GOP field is much smaller than 2016. I also expect the field to narrow fairly quickly after the first 2-3 primaries. I doubt Trump wins 50% of the delegates in any primary, except maybe a handful. Trump will lose half the states which are above average in college education. In best case scenario for Trump, Trump has the most delegates but less than 50%. In likely scenario, Haley-Desantis has more delegates than Trump. They join forces to win the nomination.

Concur with Hammer. Trump has some disadvantages going into this primary that he didn't have last time. For starters, he has a record that has vulnerabilities. Specifically, though the media made Trump out to be a Covid renegade, he largely deferred to Fauci. Desantis went his own way on Covid and erred on the side of freedom rather than authoritarianism. He looks MUCH better on the issue today, especially among Republican primary voters. Though Trump ran his mouth a lot about the Woke, he did little to fight it tangibly. Desantis actually pushed an anti-Woke policy agenda and got most of it passed into law.

Second, Trump has taken some positions recently that will put him at odds with a lot of primary voters. When Desantis tried to take away Disney's special privileges after they endorsed teachers talking about genitals and turning boys into girls with 5-8 year olds, Trump sided with Disney. Trump also criticized pro-life legislation. Whether you agree with him or not on some of the nuances, it's not a good look in the primary.

Third, Trump's act is getting worn out, and he's not executing it well. If you look at what he has done recently in response to Desantis, it looks juvenile. Of course, he has always said juvenile things, but in the past, there was truth to his jabs and they didn't seem like diversions from criticism. Jeb Bush really was low energy. Marco Rubio did seem "little." But giggling and calling Desantis "Meatball Ron" or "Ron Desanctimonious" or suggesting that Casey Desantis faked her cancer diagnosis in response to him pointing out Trumps Covid record will look weak.

Finally, Trump is frankly becoming "low energy" himself. He doesn't seem to be the energetic tough guy he seemed to be last time. He seems tired and worn out. If Desantis is serious about this race, he can outwork him.

It'll take time, but Desantis can pull this out if he doesn't screw up.

I think our corrupt DOJ will more than likely take care of Trump.

I think they'll (with fbi etc) try to get him the nomination, then crush him.

From my Twitter feed, the DJT segment is going #DrunkDade and trying to separate the Republican party. I ran into it in a discussion over Marlin and why demographic breakdown means little in a class of 33 students...
