'3' game times...Sept 2nd @ 2:30 pm ought to be nice. Kickoff times for three 2023 Texas football home games announced
I took the family to the Stanford game back on 9-4-99. It was an 11 am kickoff, I drank way too much fluids at Matt's after that one...
Worst sunburn I ever had. Dermatologist is still thanking me for all of his business due to that day.
I remember feeling sorry for those Stanford kids that day. It very rarely gets above 75° in Palo Alto in Aug/Sept, no way they were prepared for that day physically. Their tree mascot was there that day too. From our seats, we could see trainers putting ice packs on his neck. He disappeared early in the 3rd quarter.
I remember that on every well. I took a GF and at half time she went and stood by the vending booths under the seats. She was pissed at me for not leaving early.
I think that was the game that provoked my sentiments towards the lunacy of early games in Sept in Austin. Whomever is responsible for scheduling those slots should be restrained in a prostrate position in full sun on the sidelines for the entire game, inconsiderate aholes.
Was at the UT-Rice game in Rice Stadium on 9/27/97 (a hard-fought 38-31 win over the Owls). 11:00 KO. It was sunny, hot, and NO BREEZE AT ALL.
Of course, the thing about game times being "set" doesn't mean they are necessary carved into granite. Take the 1994 game against Rice. IIRC, it was originally set for Saturday, 10/15/94. And then it was reset to Sunday, 10/16/94 (to please ESPN).
Dodds would go full "Iraqi Ministry of Information" whenever someone would question it. "It's actually HOTTER at 6 pm! Wouldn't you rather tailgate at 8 am and have a nice, cool, 11:00 kickoff?"
Great memory, that Stanford game! From Stanford website: "Quarterback Major Applewhite passed for 353 yards in three quarters and Texas scored touchdowns on its first six possessions to roll over Stanford 69-17 Saturday. It was the most points ever surrendered by Stanford." Wife hid under the upper deck concessions for 2 quarters. It was a hot one!
