Quick super regional stats to think about: Texas is 11-1 in Super Regionals losing only once in 2010 when the NCAA absolutely screwed the Big XII by matching a pair of easily top five teams in the same Super in Texas and TCU. Texas is 3-0 in Supers under Pierce winning twice at home and once on the road Texas is undefeated in road Supers at 3-0 having won in Tallahassee in 2003, Oxford in 2005 and at East Carolina last year. Texas has lost game one six times and is 6-6 in game one of the supers, 11-1 in game two, and 6-1 in game 3.
Top 2nd... Stanford triple clearing bases loaded and they lead aggy 5-4. Only time in my life I am pulling for aggy to win... to help UT win the Director's Cup!!
So it seems that quite often someone unexpectedly steps up and has a great regional weekend. This year, my vote goes to Morehouse. Of course, Gordon and Johnson were terrific, and Hurley was very good but I expected good performances from them. Morehouse has been inconsistent this season, but was exceptional when the season was on the line.
Great game Horns! We just waltzed into a Regional hosted by a Top 10 team, and defeated them twice. That's no small task. UT 3-0 Miami 2-2 U La 1-2 Maine 0-2
Tonight, Zane pitched really smart. This wasn't just a hurler who reared back and threw it as fast as he could. He really spotted that outside corner, worked in a lot of breaking balls, and still burned his mid-to-upper 90s fastball by batters when appropriate. Kudos to Morehouse.
Powell needed that hit and RBIs. He's been in a mini-slump lately, so it's good to see him break out of it. Our top batting average hitter is back in the swing of things.
Another Florida team sent home by Texas in the post season.....just another year. Zane appears to be settling in at the right time too. I would feel a lot better if Stehle found his groove. This team is looking awefully close to the team I thought we had preseason…. also, can’t be understated how important it is for the 7,8,9 hole to be even a little productive. kudos to Flores, O’Dowd and Daly for creating some offense. Couple all of those items together this team is very formidable
This is very important. All 3 have come on with some not-infrequent power in the Regional, going back to the Conference tourney and WV series. Ultimately, Flores will be a star by the time he's done here. Flores is showing his power at the plate. We're seeing why he was so highly rated coming out of high school. O'Dowd is stepping up here in the playoffs, above a 'just-average' performance. He's had a couple of homers recently, some RBIs and timely hits. He's also batting North of 0.280 now. Not bad for an 8-hole hitter. Not bad for a second baseman (not named Joe Morgan). Daly is getting some timely hits, including a dinger or two. Nobody's going to mistake him for Campbell or Powell at the plate, but he is contributing now.
The track and field competition ends Saturday. If we play the Saturday - Monday slate, then possibly only one night is affected.
Penn got hit with a weird technical call. The loaded the bases, had a 3-2 count, and got a technical strike called on the batter for delay of game.
Stanford has a boring and tired looking little baseball field. Meanwhile aggy solo HR makes it 6-5 Tree.
