I wish that were true. My personal opinion is they want a coach who will get them into the WNBA and overseas pro ball. In the past we've talked about "a mother would never send her kid to Mulkey with her past history" but I haven't seen examples of that. Of course, how do you prove a negative? Winners gravitate to winners because they all think, "Nah, I'm so good she would never cut me or go back on her word. I'm too good."

Someone should probably tell Blair there is a very short statute of limitations on it being a "great day to be a longhorn" before something "great" has to actually happen. I'm over here still waiting on that grad transfer combo guard.

One could argue that her statement is applicable to every day as opposed to the alternative (e.g. Being a Tech grad).

I am truly sorry to hear that. As much as I dislike how she treated our program, I wouldn't wish serious injury on anybody.

Where did you see that? I've been trying to find it but the only search result I get is from 2012 when 49ers running back Kendall Hunter tore his Achilles.

That's a shame for her--and I'm not being sarcastic or snide. I hate to see any young person go down to injury.

Very disappointing. There's a huge difference between "spelling Rori" for a few minutes a game versus have to replace Rori if she is out for an extended amount of time (just like the beginning of the 2022 season). There are injuries, COVID, concussion protocols, family issues, etc. which can easily prohibit a starter from being available to play.

And, for the 2024-25 season, we will be in the same situation (minus Shaylee) unless we get a PG signee for the 2024 signing class.

I’m going to take that as Vic is confident in Maul’s ability to handle the point guard responsibility when Rori needs a break. Harmon will get about 5 minutes of rest(if that) each game and Maul is more than capable of handling the responsibility. Maul is going to turn a lot of heads this year in my opinion with her play and basketball IQ. My biggest worry is we didn’t address our need for 3 point shooting whatsoever. In fact we are worse than we were last year with the graduation of Morris. I guess Vic will try to rely on his defense again to win games.

I am thinking/hoping that the shooting abilities of two of our freshmen will be a nice surprise.

Jac can shoot the ball too. She didn't show much last year, but the skill is there. Hopefully the game slows down, she is stronger, and her offensive numbers increase accordingly.

I'm thinking the same... a little more maturity in her game (patience, timing, footwork, etc) and she's going to be a special player because she definitely has the skills.

We better hope for some serious off-season development of our guards. Maybe it'll come together. We'll see. But we better start getting some good news for the 2024 class, because we whiffed on the portal this off-season.

Well, I'm curious to see how the core group will do (no more pulling Hadi and DeYona after one silly foul) and perhaps with the return of Amo things will work out. However, when things get bottled up inside, we must have better perimeter shooting than we did last year. Otherwise, it could be a long season.

I think some of our shooting woes last year was a lack of ability to attack and break down defenses off the bounce from the wings, which made it more difficult for us to consistently get kickouts for good looks from downtown. I think the addition of Booker and hopefully Maul addresses that problem and, as previously mentioned, Jac's development could also. Rori's poor shooting was a different story and IMO due to a couple of factors. Again, I fully expect her shooting to be much better this coming season. She's the type of player who takes too much pride in her game to let that continue to hinder her and the team.

I'm going to die on the hill that she wasn't comfortable with her shot because of 15-20 pounds of muscle she added last summer and not enough time to completely acclimate to it. I agree that Rori isn't the type to rest on her laurels and I'm sure she has spent a lot of time getting shots up and making the necessary adjustments.

If she could get her 3-pt % just to her freshman season (31.9%) compared to last season's 15.7%, there will be quite a few point guards 'tapping out' when they face the Longhorns. Having to defend her much closer on the perimeter would create a lot of opportunities for her to just blow past them off the dribble. She's already their worst nightmare when she's on defense.

Exactly! That is the main thing contributing to her shooting woes that I was referencing. The other was the enormity of the psychological demand on her... having to be the defensive leader, sole ball handler, floor general, and doing it all with the knowledge that an off game or foul trouble on her part was pretty much a guaranteed loss. That was a heavy load on her shoulders. Hopefully the new additions can combine with Shaylee and lighten some of that load.

I think/hope there is a couple of messages behind our lack of recruits and transfers. First I think the coaches are ok with the talent on this team as is. Second I think there will be no doubt when we get to the 2025 class who get the keys to drive this program when Rori leaves.

I know we're disappointed Vic didn't get a back up PG from the portal. But I think we have to believe Vic felt like what is already on the roster was just as good or better than what he could get in the portal.

After all, Gisella was there in the spring so he knows what she can do. Her HS play does show some pretty good ball handling skills. He may be confident a combination on Maul, Booker and Gonzales can fill that gap. And maybe he feels like Graves can fill in 5-10 min per game.

I don't have the answer because I don't watch them practice every day. But I do feel confident Vic knows what he's doing.
