I tend to agree with him. I just haven't hashed out all the government reasons for rejecting plural marriage - my guess is it could be an administrative nightmare (honoring and determining benefits, etc), but I'm not confident that's a good enough reason to deny a person his/her right to marry the person(s) of their choosing.
Naked Bongo, While I'm not going to say you are wrong, I will give my viewpoint on the difference between gay marriage and legalizing polygamy. I believe being gay is not a choice but a born trait. I know some people believe it is some type of choice, but I don't believe that at all. Therefore, I believe that gay people should have every right given to straight people. I don't feel the same way about polygamy. While certain religions may endorse the practice, I don't think people are born with a polygamy trait. Also, if we extended benefits to polygamists, then it seems we would be granting greater rather than equal benefits. Anyway, just my 2 cents.
Do the federal government and states simply refuse to recognize plural marriages, as with gay marriages, or do they actually prohibit plural marriages altogether? It's the latter, right?
Stark usually spends all of his time ******* with surgery centers, imaging centers, and other medical dealies. Glad to hear he's distracted from that for a bit.
Quite a slippery slope. Why not allow bestiality? Or marriage to minors? The gov't has to draw the line somewhere. Where they draw that line is up for debate, and both sides fight for their ideas, with the ultimate compromise becoming law. This is the American and Constitutional way.
Pete Stark has been trying to eliminate Health Savings Accounts, because people are saving more than they are spending from the accounts, which makes him pretty much retarded.
Slippery slope arguments are by definition, logical fallacies. Gay marriage and polygamy are jokes, but using a slippery slope argument against them is ludicrous
I don't really have a problem with polygamy. I can't say it seems appealing to me but so long as all the parties involved are consenting adults, I don't really care.
Don't really care as long as only one pair gets the associated government benefits and the kids are treated right.
I think polygamy, or at least having multiple sexual partners, is a trait a lot, if not most men naturally have. Monogamy is a pretty recent concept is the history of mankind.
