.... you have been to. I am including traditional bowl sites that may or may not currently host home regular season games (Cotton Bowl and Qualcomm in San Diego come to mind) I am also not including DKR for objectivity sake. My top ten: 1. Rose Bowl 2. Horseshoe 3. Notre Dame 4. Cotton Bowl 5. Tennessee (Neyland?) 6. Nebraska 7. Bryant-Denny- Alabama 8. LSU 9. Sanford - Georgia 10.Sugar Bowl Honorable mention: Stanford Stadium, LA Coliseum, Virginia, Arizona St., North Carolina, Colorado, Qualcomm and Auburn (Jordan-Hare). Not ranked: Pyle field, Sooners- owen?, Pickens-OSU, Baylor, Rice, TCU, Alamodome Top ten not seen 1. Michigan 2. Clemson 3. Florida 4. Orange Bowl (both) 5. Florida St. 6. Oregon 7. Penn State 8. New Fiesta Bowl 9. California 10. Washington Compare and contrast....
The Cotton Bowl? Seriously? Yes, the atmosphere is electric for the TX/OU game, but other than that, the place is a ********.
The Cotton Bowl is a GREAT place to watch college football. A true bowl stadium, seats close to field, incredible history, open air, natural grass, bars nearby .... Sure, your knees hurt from hitting the seat in front, but that's part of its charm. Regarding concession lines, bathrooms, etc., I never leave my seat, so that doesn't matter to me.
My top 10 'away' venues in aphabetical order, not suggesting a favorite ... Army Auburn Florida LSU Nebraska Notre Dame Ohio State South Carolina Syracuse UCLA honorable mention ... Air Force Navy and the best game of all ... Army/Navy in any stadium
horseshoe kyle rose bowl bryant-denny tiger husker memorial folsom razorback cotton bowl boone pickens (holla)
That I have been too: Rose Bowl-The top venue Notre Dame Stadium-distant second, great sightlines and tremendous atmosphere Sun Bowl-this is an underrated venue built into mountains with seats very close to field North Carolina-Another very underrated stadium Illinois Memorial Stadium-Classic architecture Jack Trice Iowa State-Small and comfortable easy sightlines Rutgers Stadium-Again small and comfortable easy sightlines Holiday Bowl-just rounding out list at this point Sugar Bowl-Any place that serves alcohol has to make the list Kansas Memorial-Just b/c I saw VY lead a tremendous last second drive this stadium holds fond memories Top five I would like to go to Big House Michigan Univ. Washington-driven past it on trips to Seattle and it is incredible looking opening on to the Lake Neyland Tennessee Bryant Denny Alabama Horseshoe Ohio State
And if you want a real 'classic' with great sight lines and all seats close to the field ... Harvard ... for which, because the stadium is so narrow compared to the Yale Bowl, the forward pass was instituted!
Top ten I've been to: 1. Cotton Bowl (for OU) 2. Rose Bowl 3. Ohio Stadium 4. Notre Dame 5. Nebraska 6. Kyle Field 7. North Carolina (they had Chick-fil-a for God's sake) 8. Sugar Bowl 9. Folsom Field 10. Stillwater (fun place to go)
for the record, San Diego St. calls Qualcomm home. Bad football, perhaps, but it is Division I football just the same. The ******* chargers want it condemmed, but I agree that it's a good place to watch football.
Rose Bowl--great tradition and even greater Longhorn significance Beaver Stadium--largest stadium in the country with a wild student section Colorado--pretty picturesque in the mountains and all-fans suck, though TX-OU Cotton Bowl--the greatest college football game there is Boone Pickens
the sugar bowl (superdome) is the worst football stadium i have ever been to. you are set up a mile from the field in every direction but the end zone.
Qualcomm is a ******* terrible place to watch football. Seats are extremely far from the field, which drops it out of contention, IMO.
Interesting, I expected to see Kyle Field in the original post but find it hard to argue with the list you post. Kyle would likely be in my limited list, but I bet those venues are all better on game day. I would add the Sugar Bowl. I saw Texas-Virginia Tech and thought the place was loud and all the seats were good. Toss in the French Quarter and it's pretty great. Except that we lost If only we'd made that interception in the first half.......
If you are asking for a top 10 that I have been to, excluding DKR, then my list would be as follows, in no particular order: Rose Bowl Super Dome Cotton Bowl Folsom Field (Boulder) Jack Trice Stadium (Ames) T Boone Pickens Stadium (Stillwater) Astrodome Jones Stadium (Lubbock) Floyd Casey Stadium (Waco) Razorback Stadium There are a few more, like the aggy tacklebox, but these are the best of the ones I can think of offhand. Frankly, I don't go around watching live college football games that do not involve Texas, so I have not been to all that many venues.
I 2nd the General! The Sugar Bowl/Superdome is absolutely one of the worst places to watch a game because of the distance of the field to the seats! That place is a **** hole!!!
Top I've been to, excluding DKR Rose Bowl Cotton Bowl Big House Colorado Rice Stadium.......maybe it's the old bleachers Sun Devil Stadium Pyle Field SBC Jones Stadium Floyd Casey Robertson Stadium....As long as your not in the bleachers
Excluding Tiger Stadium- Jordan-Hare Bryant-Denny DK Royal Ben Hill Griffin Notre Dame Stadium Vaught-Hemingway (in '03) Sun Devil Neyland Kyle Field Williams-Brice Sanford
Michigan Stadium is extremely overrated. I went there for a game against Wisconsin when Ron Dayne was playing. No exaggeration, but there were times during the game when you could carry a conversation with the person next to you. I'd compare it to a baseball game. This wasn't a blowout either, but a close game. You would have never known there were 106K people in the stands.
Folsom @ CU Best field I've ever been to. Smaller stadium, very close to the action. Mountains in the background.
