I believe it is a Peacock Mamba Hunter. It is not indigenous to our area but can migrate through, being a migratory flight path. But our climate provides a good spot to stop and stay awhile. Even birds know how great our area can be. It is known to hunt many varities of Mamba snakes to include the several found in Central Texas. It is a shy bird that prefers to watch to interacting with humans. They are, however, known to follow people, being mistaken for stalking. Much like Dolphins with sharks, they almost seem to want to protect humans from Mamba snakes.

Several stories exist where all of a sudden a family or human in the woods, or on a trail, see this flash of color go by and snap at the ground. It is a Peacock Mamba Hunter saving the humans from a sure death.
    Great bird and great picture.

All of the above are fact according to makeitupedia.com

I think you could do without socio-economic bias. Not all poor birds rely on flash and color, also known as Bird-Bling.

It is definitely a pheasant of some kind. That is more colorful than usual. Did you take the picture?

It has been identified as a "Swinhoe's Pheasant." It is native to Taiwan and is classified as "near threatened." The pic was taken in Kerrville.

Birdwatchers call these "exotic" or "introduced" species. Undoubtedly escaped from some local rancher. Like guinea hens, or other such fowl. You see Muscovy Ducks and other Asian species out in the field sometimes, also mute swans. Some eventually establish a viable breeding population and become considered as wild birds rather than domestic.

Ah yes, the White Mamba as there is less fat in their meat as opposed to dark meat (just like with chicken).

I thought I saw a Road Mamba today. You know, the ones that hide on a road and camo themselves to look like the road. Deadly. I did not slow down or look back. Fear took hold.

Actually, all joking aside it's a red-goggled pigeon carrier. Rare species seen mostly in Geico commercials and coloring books.
