Episode 1 vastly exceeded my expectations. It walks a thin line of what amount of campiness it acceptable, but I think it got away with it. Back to the basics for HBO Moderate amount of cursing - Check Interesting Characters - Check Plot with direction - Check Sex/Tits - Check
I couldn't give it more than five minutes. Opening scene looked worse than a bad horror movie, then Anna's fake accent was the clincher.
I want to like it and I'm hoping the issues I had with it are the usual "first episode and we are just trying to introduce the characters" stuff. The twist with vampires living in the open is interesting. I REALLY don't like the teeth that instantly pop out to become long. I know vampires aren't real, but that just doesn't make any sense. What is up with the telepath? I just don't get why they added that element to the show. I'm going to give it at least a couple more episodes, but I'm not terribly optimistic at this point.
I thought it was pretty cool. Neat take on the vampire thing. The accents were bad in some cases but seemed to get better as the show went on. I will keep watching.
I liked it. The intro was creepy as hell. It kind of reminding me of Carnivale for some reason. As far as the sex, I feel like HBO always puts a good amount of sex into the first couple of episodes of a series, but then it decreases dramatically. (see Rome, Entourage) I think the fact that Sookie (what a god-awful name) is telepathic will have something to do with her having to defeat the bad vampires (assuming Bill is a good one).
Man, it was all over the place. I never read any of the books so I went into it blind, but like the premise. There were some cool scenes & I can see the promise of some of the potential plot lines, but by the 3rd act I was just waiting for more titties. And it's going to be ******* painful to see E. B. Farnum in this show & not be pissed off at the fact that not only is Deadwood not on the air anymore, they never even finished the *********** show.
I was a fan of the books, so I was interested to see how they portrayed it. So far not very well. They should have stuck closer to the books. The two main characters are okay.
Yeah, I've got a suspicion that Sam is the dog @ Merlotte's. He went out to follow Sookie when the vamp was being drained but he was never seen, only the dog. It's not like the parking lot's that big of a place. He would have stumbled across them soon enough.
I am getting into it because they seem to do a batman thing and leave Sookie in danger at the end of every show.
Interesting premise, terrible acting. I will give it my usual 3 episode chance before making a final decision.
Anna Paquin has an amazingly annoying face. I can't stand her fake accent and that stupid half smirk she gives every 2 seconds. By the end of the second episode I was spending all my time making cracks about how annoying she is.
