way to go bud f-ing selig. let's put the stros, who are riding an amazing hot streak and are now dealing with a huge natural catastrophe in the most ridiculous situation possible. milwakee is the last place on earth we should be playing two of our 'home' games right now. not only will most of the people there be cubs fans, but everyone else will be rooting against the astros so we don't over take the brewers. selig is screwing with us so his old team get more money from hosting 2 extra games. i hate him. i still hate him for making us open the freaking roof in the 05 world series. if i were drayton i would have just broken the damn thing shut and told selig to go ---- himself. *rant over*
btw, if anyone was watching cnn last night right before ike hit galveston, the dude in the chicken suit behind the field reporter was hilarious.
Agree. I could see Brewer fans showing up and making things really rowdy for both teams. F Selig, let's play in KC or Arizona. Somewhere truly nuetral.
I guess mlb is using the argument that the Cubs play a 3-game series at Milwaukee starting Tuesday. Makes sense, but the Astros are still getting screwed. They should play 2 in Arlington on Sunday, at least they could have some semblance of home cooking at the Ballpark. Plus, it would give the baseball fans in dfw games that actually matter in September for the first time in 4 years (9 if you count all the way back to the Rangers last playoff team). As a Ranger fan, if I were up there, I certainly would consider going to these games. Will mlb ever get a real commissioner?
Milwaukee? MLB is a ******* farce. That's about as neutral as the Horns having to play a "home" game in Norman.
I know Selig no longer has any ownership interest in Milwaukee, and his daughter no longer has any hand in managing the franchise, so it must be a coincidence that last year the Indians-Angels series and now the Cubs-Astros series get moved there. Round Rock would have been really cool.
arlington would have been for the best i think. there are plenty of astro fans there and the ranger fans would support a fellow texas team i believe. it would have still been a large stadium to make money for $elig and uncle drayton to split too.
I think Milwaukee's retractable roof had something to with with this. They really can't afford to move the games and then have them rained out.
This sucks for the Stros, but if you look at the schedules and weather forecasts, Milwaukee is one of the few options.
As a Cubs fan I can admit Houston got the shaft ... could they have refused to play at Miller? I can see how crazy weather made Milwaukee an obvious choice though. 5-0 Cubs in the 3rd.
Our "home" crowd really supported Zambrano's no-no effort tonight. This is bull ****. Could have played in Tampa. Rays are playing in NY. True neutral site. Dome stadium. MLB ****** the Astros on this one.
It sucks also because Milwaukee looks to be in legendary collapse mode. The Phillies may take the Wild Card.
Reading how difficult it was for the Astros to get to Milwaukee in the first place makes this decision even more outrageous. f**k you, Bud.
"People don't have electricity, trees are down, houses are broken, and we're worried about playing this game?" Waters said. Bad decision to play this at all. Thanks Bud, you asshat.
I don't blame MLB. Other domed teams except for Seattle and Minnesota all start home stands today. And you just don't cancel games in the thick of a playoff race.
Blame MLB for stalling the decision until Saturday morning. This should have been discussed at length last week with a decision made by Friday morning so the team could get out of town before the storm. You have to grudgingly accept the Milwaukee location. The dome guarantees the games will be played, and other domes were spoken for (at least today). You could cynically say the 23K crowd is more revenue for the Astros than they would have elsewhere, including Arlington. Plus, Cubs fans would have flocked to any neutral location, including Arlington. It's a shame that Ike is affecting the playoff race, but I wouldn't hang all the blame on MLB.
I went to bed really pissed off, but I have found the following silver linings: 1) The Cubs will be better rested when the play the Brewers on Tuesday - this is good. 2) Zambrano would have probably beaten us if we'd played on the moon. Now we just need Philly to fall apart. F Bud Selig anyway.
Y'all keep saying Philly - I'm looking at the Mets. Although their schedule isn't really rough, they do play the next 7 on the road, including 3 against the Braves, who they just lost 2 of 3 against, and then they have a 4 game home set with the Cubs. Philly has the Braves, Marlins and Nats left - only 3 games against a team above .500 vs. 7 for the Mets (which happen to be their last 7). We're 3 back of the Mets with 2 weeks to go. That's the target we should be aiming for.
yeah, i don't think it would have mattered where they played, their heads wouldn't have been into it. i mean ****, they're getting no hit again, this time by ted freaking lilly...****.
If anyone in the Astros organization had a brain, they would have told MLB to shove it and postpone the whole series do to the Hurricane's destruction of the city and play the 3 games at the end of the season. don't just blame Bud, blame Drayton for having 0 cajones.
Nope, Fox made it known that they wanted the playoffs started two days after the season ended. No three game series would have been possible. I'm a Cubs fan, and I still don't see why they didn't go play in Tampa. It would have been more fair and logical.
