I know I'm probably not the first person to ask, but I didn't see another thread about it. I didn't see Fozzy against Arky or Rice. McGee doesn't look like he can break tackles, and this worries me against more physical teams. I think the duo of Fozzy and Cody Johnson will help us out a lot in conference play. They remind me of Melton and Charles during the '05 season, except I haven't seen enough of Fozzy to get a gauge on his real ability, and Cody Johnson is Melton with a mean streak. Anyone have any idea what we can expect in Boulder? My Prediction: Pain.
I hope you mean pain for them, because we're bringing it. I think Fozzy could be special as well as Cody Johnson. I can't wait til they see the field, I think our running will be just fine. Our Defense gets stiffer by the week. And Colt looks Heisman worthy, we're done with the cream puffs, now it's time for the real games. I'm really excited.
First, I don't think CJ should be compared to Melton. I think he'll stick at RB because at 5'11" he has a lower center of gravity. Add some size, speed, and a mean streak, you got yourself a good back. He reminds me a little bit of Earl. Of course EC is in a whole another universe as far as greatness.
We wont need him. Let him rest up for OU. He'll come out running like a frickin wind up toy in Dallas.
Getting an autograph from Fozzy after the game, my 9 year old asked him if he'd be back for OU. Fozzy said "you might see me next week!"
I want, and we need, Fozzy to be in tip-top health against OU. It would be nice if he can get some (but not too many) carries against Colorado so he can get rid of any cobwebs and reestablish confidence he can play on the road in front of a hostile crowd. That said, I don't want Fozzy to get 30 carries against CU, no matter how well he may be doing. The Longhorns have more than enough tools for CU, but will need every weapon available against Oklahoma.
If he is healthy then play him. We're no juggernaut! We can't afford to rest anyone who's ready to play. I could easily see us losing to CU. Against better competition, our lack of speed at the RB and WR positions will be very noticeable, as will the fact that our best runner is Colt, which is not a good thing no matter how much some may enjoy watching Colt do his thing. So if Fozzy is healthy, play him and afford this team every opportunity to win against CU, because if we lose that game, the OU game will only be tougher to win and more critical to win. I forgot the NFL coach who said it, but I've always agreed with his answer when asked "you have a couple tough games coming up next week and the week after, so how do you prepare for a game of lesser importance this week, without looking ahead?" The coach simply replied "if you don't think every game is important, just try losing one."
Agree with someone above who said give him some carries if healthy but don't wear him out. Right now we are scoring almost 50 pts/gm and giving up 11 (against inferior talent), and this is much better than CU. However, any Big 12 game on the road is dangerous. We should be OK as long as we take care of the ball.
Texas Taps for the win. I think Fozzy should get some carries against CU if he is healthy, but let's save him for OU as much as possible. I would rather lull Stoopsie and company into thinking that we don't have a running game. Maybe we do, maybe we don't -- either way, it will be our little secret 'til then.
Yeah, that is until Fozzy gets popped a few times by the likes of talent he's not use to seeing and fumbles a time or two. He has to get a feel for the higher level of competition and the speed of CU, OU etc. as apposed to UTEP. He's not just going to go turnaround what is a pedestrian running game against OU, without getting reps and adjusting to the higher level of competition that he is about to face in league play. That's just not very smart to suggest or to do if you're the coaches, but I wouldn't be surprised at all if that's what Mack and Davis are thinking.
LOL!!! You're not serious are you? You are not actually comparing a UT practice to actual big 12 road games are you?
They limit contact in practice. It's incomparable to actual games. Fozzy needs to play if he's at least 50 percent. We might need him in the conference schedule.
I'd rather have him sit and rest during the CU game to be fully ready to go against blow u. Remeber when we rushed Colt back out there after an injury......we lost 12-7. Dont rush it Fozzy.
While I agree it would be best to have a home-run threat to compliment Johnson's syle of running, I think a lot here are discounting Johnson's game. The guy is a brute who hits the hole hard and fast and NEVER seems to run toward a sideline. The worst he's done is gain maybe a yard, maybe no gain, but I have not seen him lose significant yards, nor have I seen him put one on the carpet. If he has fumbled, then correct me. I like a guy who can consistently pick up 3 and 4 yds, not fumble, and pick up a blitz. Not pretty, but effective.
We may not be a juggernot, but we have enough to beat CU without Fozzy. I agree let him get a few reps and see the speed of the Big 12 then back to the training room. He is not likely to get too hurt in just a few carries, and if he is going to then it will happen just as quickly against OU. We don't want to look ahead, but lets not put all of our chips on the table just yet.
