I don't see how usc should be ranked above other 1 loss teams with tougher schedules and a higher ranked loss. My AP Top 25 1. Texas 2. Alabama 3. Penn State 4. Oklahoma 5. Florida 6. Texas Tech 7. Georgia 8. Oklahoma State 9. USC 10. Utah
12. Sorry I don't buy that Okie St. is all that. They're certainly better than recent years, but the D is suspect. I chalk up the close win last Sat. more to UT finally cracking a little due to the schedule from hell rather than State being so formidable. I also think typically they came up short on coaching when it mattered... not calling a TO on that 4th and 7 or whatever (with 3 remaining), then calling a play that worked early in the game but that UT snuffed out pretty much from the mid-2nd quarter on showed me more of the same. I think the win over Mizzou is also not all that. Beginning of the year I said that Mizzou is overrated and Texas would kill them. Check. Yeah they do get credit for going into Columbia and beating a decent (not Top 10) team on the road. But Mizzou is also lucky to have the remaining schedule they do. They'll get into the CCG and Texas will beat them soundly - again. Mizzou is WAY overrated... they should be about 20 or so now. Oklahoma State always furnishes the biggest players and hardest hitters on our schedule, usually equal to OU. But I just think they're an offensive power with a questionable defense, despite coming on. Let's see how *they* do after their part of the murderer's row scheule. I believe they will drop both Tech and OU games. They'll get tired now that the tough part of their schedule is coming up and I think lose 3-4 by the end of the season. A good season for them but nothing spectacular. I predict they'll finish about 22nd or so if they win their bowl game.
1. Texas 2. Alabama 3. Penn State 4.Texas Tech 5. Florida 6. Oklahoma State 7. Oklahoma 8. Georgia Just explain why USC should be ranked ahead of Georgia?? USC's only big win was at home against Ohio St who has now lost 2 games. Plus Prior was only splitting time at that point. In addition USC lost to a horrible team. On the other hand Georgia beat LSU on the road and Vanderbilt even though Vandy isn't that good either. However Vandy is better than any win USC has other than OSU. Georgia's only loss is to the #2 team in the nation, Alabama.
The great thing about all the angst over why the AP put this school over that one is that it doesn't matter. The AP poll doesn't count for anything in the end. Writers are scumbags who assume they know something about sports just cuz they write about it. I believe the AP writers would be fine with them ranking the teams each week and just forgoing the whole game business.
it's a good thing you guys don't have a vote in the poll otherwise SC would be in the "receiving votes" category
1. Texas 2. Alabama 3. Penn State 4. North Texas 5. SMU 6. TCU 7. Oklahoma State 8. Oklahoma 9. Florida 10. Rice
The AP crown is neither more nor less bogus than it was before the BCS was formed. If their champion today is illegitimate, then so are the 40+ they crowned before 1998. Until we have a playoff system, one where "opinion" drops down to the 8/9 or 16/17 level of distinction, then the beauty pageant continues to be the fly in the ointment of college football.
Really not impressed with USC. I wouldn't put them in the Top 10. I mean who have they beaten? Their only saving grace is beating an Ohio State team that was still struggling to find an identity particularly with their QB's. It's unfortunate for them that the Pac-10 has been injury-ridden this year and sputtering (if not entirely decrepit) but that's just the way it is this year. OkSU is about where they should be. Sure, they played well against us but they still have to prove their resilience. They'll get their chance soon enough though. TCU should be higher, they're playing incredibly solid defense and their offense, when healthy, is getting it done. Only thing going against them is the MWC conference. When they beat Utah they should be the BCS buster this year. When are we going to trade Baylor for TCU? Penn State should be #2 -- for now. It wasn't a pretty win but it was in the Horseshoe and against an OSU team that has found its rhythm. The thing going against them is that 'Bama has a chance to prove itself though and Penn doesn't. Florida deserves top 5. Their balance of explosive offense and good defense is scary. Plus, they've been playing solid football in a solid conference.
Anything could happen, but as I see it.... Okla-State is the best total team we have played. I put them #2 in the country behind Texas. 1. Texas 2. Okla-State 3. OU 4. Florida 5. Alabama 6. Georgia 7. Texas Tech ... maybe 8. Utah 9. TCU 10. Penn State... That's right. Penn State would struggle against that list in front of them. Might win one or two games. If that.
