Going to SF over New Years, looking for hotel recommendations in Union Sq., Nob Hill, or Financial District under $250/ night.
i stayed at the hilton downtown at 333 o'farrell street a few weeks ago. about that price, nice enough place, in the area you are looking for, rooms made up well but a bit undersized.
My favorite is the Petite Auberge. Small boutique hotel in the Union Square / Knob Hill area. They have a sister hotel (basically, right next door) -- the White Swan Inn. Both have unique rooms, many with fireplaces. That is where I stay if I can make it to San Francisco. Just checked, and White Swan has rooms -- luxury King with Fireplace for $219+tax, which should make it about $250
