never though he was that good. has a strong arm definitely but not a great QB, decent. NFL loves bc arm strength. NFL gms need to get fired too. he will no doubt be top 10.
It must be true. I just heard it on ABC. I think the statement was that he was ranked number two now and if he stays he will be ranked number one next year earning him millions more. I think that assumes that Bradford leaves this year. Come to think of it the HOLE idea is an assumption.
He was flat awful in the first half of the Capital One Bowl. He couldn't even hit his check off men. He's heated up some in the third quarter. I've got 32 points on Georgia in the office Bowl Game pool. I need 'em to win. Announcer just said that he likes Stafford better than Bradford. I don't see it.
with the right qb coach (something that he probably wont get in the top 10 teams in the draft) i think he could be a starter in the NFL for quite a while. No pro bowler or anything but his arm is just so damn strong that with the right qb coach i think he could make a name for himself.
I have never understood the hype for that guy. It was killing me in preseason when Herbstreet kept callin him the #1 quarterback in the country. Im just like the OP. Every time I watch that guy play im extremely underwhelmed.
He can go large blocks of time (games even) and look very average. I think he's severely overrated. However, someone will take him high in the draft because he's big and has a strong arm. Look at Jamarcus Russell.
Dude has a cannon. That is why the pros love him. If he played in the Big 12 for a legit OC he would (probably) put up huge numbers. (I say "probably" because you never know how somoene will do in a spread/passing offense until they try it; too many variables like accuracy, reading defenses, audible ability, cool under poressure, etc). As it is, he plays for another boring, 19th Century, ball control SEC offense, and thus puts up stats that are similar to those of that era (remember that 55% completion and 2000 yards with 20+ TDs used to be pretty damn good). Because he has that rocket, the pro scouts think they can make him into a pro bowler. They chalk up his mediocre college performances to poor coaching and pedestrian schemes. For my part, I like guys that were actually PRODUCTIVE in college, even if they don't look perfect at the combines. See e.g. Zach Thomas, Drew Brees, Wes Welker, Darren Sproles, Teddy Bruschi, Emmit Smith, etc. Some pro GMs lose their jobs by chasing perceived/unrealized talent over guys that can actually play. We will see if that is the case with Stafford.
I find that every time I see him play, the commentator at some point says "that's not the level of play you expect from Stafford", or something along those lines. I have to wonder when he's actually playing at this level he supposedly has.
Colt and Bradford also see a ton more snaps out of shotgun than Stafford. I never thought Jason Campbell would be a starting QB in the NFL but he's progressed enough in his first few years.
the guy is like Nuke LaLoosh - million dollar arm with a 5 cent head. he has all the measurables in the world, but he makes some terrible decisions.
Maybe I'm a knucklehead, but why isn't Mark Sanchez talked about in the same breath as Bradford and Stafford? Can't just be because his name doesn't rhyme with them? Sanchez looked ready to move on last night, but it could just be because PSU's db's are that bad, I don't know. From what I saw in the Rose Bowl, I'd have to take Sanchez over even Bradford. But again, I could just be a knucklehead.
Sanchez was awesome yesterday, but he really hasn't looked like that all year long. That was one of the first times that i have seen Sanchez really look like a 5 star quarterback.
