Which do you think is the better movie. I don't want to hear which one you think is more likely to win the Best Picture Oscar, but which of the two do you personally think is the better overall film. That means characters, acting, direction, cinematography, art direction, screenplay, etc...

While I think The Dark Knight was a fine movie with a terrific performance by Bale and Ledger, who incidentally was originally lambasted by all the fanboys when given the role to follow Jack Nicholson, I just thought it was a little too long, a little too self important, and Rachel Dawes still sucks. Some people were praising this as the Untouchables in Gotham, well I already saw the Untouchables and every other terrific film noir...this did nothing to break new ground.

Wall-E, on the other hand, surpassed the exceptionally high expectations that Pixar constantly sets for itself by tugging even more empathy from its audience than any of its other brilliant films. And it's an animated trash compacting robot. The animation, the blocking, the "silent" screenplay were all absolutely hypnotic.

Easy for me. Dark Knight. Great movie with one of the best villains ever. Wall-E sucked, in my opinion, so it's an easy choice.

Slumdog Millionaire is the best movie I've seen this year, however.

I wasn't crazy about either, but Heath Ledger makes it an easy choice.

    I thought Wall-E was Pixar's worst.

I didn't like any of the characters in Dark Knight other than Ledger, but he was exceptional.

It's hard to compare because they are in very different genre's aimed at totally different audiences. I like Wall-e, but I probably wouldn't want to watch it ever again. I liked Dark Night, but thought it was way too long. I'd probably never watch it again because of the length. However, I don't really like animated movies, and was never really into the whole superhero/comic book scene.

Didn't see wall-e, saw dark knight. It was a good movie, Heath Ledger was great, but to borrow and skew a phrase from Hornfans, I've seen better on campus. Enjoyed it, but to consider it Oscar worthy is nuts.

Yea, I didn't think neither was oscar worthy. WallE maybe for best animated feature, and Heath ledger for best supporting actor.

    I was disappointed with Wall-E.

    Dark Knight was better.

WallE was entertaining, but considering the main character says 2 words; walleeeeeee & evaaaaa with some R2D2 type sounds built in, I just cant consider that to be a great movie. I watched it, I probably wont watch it again.

Toy Story, Cars, Nemo are movies I will watch if I run accross them on the TV.

I went and saw Wall-E with some friends, and only went because there was nothing else to see.

I ended up LOVING it. To be able to carry an animated movie, primarily promoted for children, using no dialogue for so long is a feat in and of itself.

The underlying messages in the movie, though some of it would go over a young child's head, was great. Pixar movies usually end up having the same "friendship", "loyalty", "teamwork" kind of "moral of the story" ending. I personally think that Wall-E is a cut above the rest of their movies, and one of the best films of the year.

I also appreciated the Wall-E watch and washable tattoos I got with the purchase of my movie ticket. [IMG]

    Spoiler alert......

The one thing I would change about Wall-E would be the ending...it would have been more powerful if he didn't reboot and recover his memory.

I understood your meaning. I just disagree that the movies are much alike. Respectfully disagree.

Mel Brook's "Silent Movie" is not much like either of these two movies even though it is even more spare in terms of dialogue.

NCFOM stakes out some pretty complex territory thematically and, to me, didn't quite carry the whole thing off. Even so, it is a homerun swing at the fences in terms of nuance, subtext and execution.

I can't say the same thing about Wall-E. Maybe I am missing something, but I can't see Wall-E generating the kind of discussion that NCFOM did. It's just not nearly as rich.

    Dark Knight was better.
Wall-E was one of the best movies of it's kind ever made.

I don't get the people that didn't like Wall-E. I thought it was one of Pixar's best efforts and it was really a good movie.

Dark Knight was also way kickass.

In fact, these are the two best movies I saw this year. (My wife and I had our third child on 12/7/07, so our 2008 movie trips were quite limited)

Like I said, something from Wall-E was lost on me. Quite possibly the subtleties you point to were beyond my grasp the night I saw the movie. There must be something to it if so many people liked it so much. I've enjoyed the discussion.

I liked Wall-E, but not as much as Pixar's previous few movies. Ratatouille, The Incredibles and Finding Nemo, while not as "deep" as Wall-E, were more enjoyable.

Dark Knight by a long shot.

Wall-E was a nice try, but Heath Ledger really made Dark Knight one of my all time favorites.

Wall - E for me, but it is complex.

Dark knight was a lot like Armageddon, The new Indiana Jones and the latest Pirates of the Caribbean and a ton of mega blockbuster types... Way too much going on, story line difficult to follow, too much crammed into a movie that was already too long.

There was this entire guessing phenomena that seems to be taking Hollywood by storm. it's like one good plot twist isnt good enough anymore. There has to be audience members saying, "Dude, I had no idea how that was going to end dude!!!" The police chief died, but then he really didn't. We get to see his son tell Batman that he hates him, big deal. Why did that chick get blown up again? Because it was a trap or something? Whatever. Stupid.

IMHO, The Dark Knight could have been one of the best made if it were two different movies and they cut out "The Departed" crap where someone dies, no they didn't, but there is this cell phone trick, but then someone else dies.... It was wonderfully filmed, Heath Ledger was awesome, it sounded great, and it was interesting. But I just thought it had too much ******** in it for it to be a movie I was blown away by. A damn good movie though.

Why do I like Wall-E? I saw it in a movie theater with someone that I love very much, our relationship had similarities to the plotline, and we were the only people watching it. That was the first time that has ever happened, btw (Mon nite at like 10:30, the week after it was released. It was simple, subtle, beautiful, graphically amazing (but so was Dark Knight) and I just had a great experience watching it.

I think I'm the one of the few if not the only person on this thread that said Wall-E, so I felt I had to explain, so please pardon the long-winded post.

I need to watch Wall-E again. Maybe I just wasn't that into it at the time.
