And if you want to talk about Christian cruelty, do some research on what the Spanish explorers and conquistadores did in the Americas shortly after Fernando and Isabela took over Spain. As one example, Cortez in 1680, armed with guns and missionaries, cut one foot off every man in the town of Acoma to punish the town for trying to stand up to his army. Imagine that! Because they wanted to be free. Burning at the stake was also quite common throughout Christendom. Beheading, sure, from time to time.
Touche' YoLaDu. You found a Christian nutjob. Congrats. There is however, one fairly significant difference. Let's see how long it takes you to come up with it.
Yo you left out the part in the link where he beheaded her . here are a few examples of islamic peace, from Pamela gellers Over at Jihadwatch: And now for the obligatory mainstream media exoneration of Islam: It would be a mistake to link an act of domestic violence to the couple’s religion, he added. “There is no place for domestic violence in our religion — none,” Qazi said. “Islam would 100 percent condemn it.” The Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences has determined that over ninety percent of Pakistani wives have been struck, beaten, or abused sexually — for offenses on the order of cooking an unsatisfactory meal. Others were punished for failing to give birth to a male child. Dominating their women by violence is a prerogative Muslim men cling to tenaciously. In Spring 2005, when the East African nation of Chad tried to institute a new family law that would outlaw wife beating, Muslim clerics led resistance to the measure as un-Islamic. Why do things like this happen? Because Islamic clerics worldwide have spoken approvingly of wife-beating. In 2004, an imam in Spain, Mohammed Kamal Mustafa, was found guilty of “inciting violence on the basis of gender” for his book Women in Islam, which discussed the methods and limits of administering “physical punishment” of women. Muslim men bring this religiously sanctioned violence with them when they immigrate to the West, even to the United States. The prominent American Muslim leader Dr. Muzammil H. Siddiqi, former president of the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA), has said that “in some cases a husband may use some light disciplinary action in order to correct the moral infraction of his wife…The Koran is very clear on this issue.” In 1984, Sheikh Yousef Qaradhawi, who is one of the most respected and influential Islamic clerics in the world, wrote: “If the husband senses that feelings of disobedience and rebelliousness are rising against him in his wife, he should try his best to rectify her attitude by kind words, gentle persuasion, and reasoning with her. If this is not helpful, he should sleep apart from her, trying to awaken her agreeable feminine nature so that serenity may be restored, and she may respond to him in a harmonious fashion. If this approach fails, it is permissible for him to beat her lightly with his hands, avoiding her face and other sensitive parts.” Why do they say such things? Because the permission to beat one’s wife is rooted in the Islamic holy book, the Qur'an, and Islamic tradition. The Qur'an says: “Men shall take full care of women with the bounties which God has bestowed more abundantly on the former than on the latter, and with what they may spend out of their possessions. And the righteous women are the truly devout ones, who guard the intimacy which God has [ordained to be] guarded. And as for those women whose ill-will you have reason to fear, admonish them [first]; then leave them alone in bed; then beat them…” (4:34) The Islamic prophet Muhammad was once told that “women have become emboldened towards their husbands,” whereupon he “gave permission to beat them” (Sunan Abu Dawud, book 11, no. 2141). He was unhappy with the women who complained, not with their husbands who beat them. Muhammad even struck his favorite wife, Aisha. One night, thinking she was asleep, he went out. Aisha surreptitiously followed him. When he found out what she had done, he hit her: “He struck me on the chest which caused me pain, and then said: Did you think that Allah and His Apostle would deal unjustly with you?” (Sahih Muslim, book 4, no. 2127). Nothing in there about beheading, no. But the man was talking about domestic violence. Why does this matter? Because as long as no one has the courage to call Muslim leaders like Qazi to account for statements like this, and ask them about the clear justifications for domestic violence that do appear in Islamic tradition, what can possibly be done to combat the prevalence of domestic violence in Islamic communities? Ignoring the Islamic justifications for domestic violence harms Muslim women. The difference: the Toledo crime had religious motivation, in the Buffalo crime there were no religious motivation. If you were thinking the difference was that the Buffalo case was murder and the Toledo case was attempted murder; I am sure you could find several incidents of a Christian committing a murder just today alone. Not saying those murders would have religious motivations, but neither did the Buffalo case.
The Quran also says that your mother should be respected more than your father, because it is she who gave birth to you. It says that Jesus and Moses are as important as Mohammed because they are all prophets of God, and that Christians and Jews are to be respected. Islam, by definition, means submission, or at least that is the best word to use in the English language as I am told. Unfortunately, this debate can go on and on when you cherry pick verses.
The Link Police: Son Kills Mom, Puts Head In Bag Officers said that after the slaying, Henry went to visit his father, then went to church. What's up with Christians beheading people? By the way, i am a Christian and regular church goer. What this person did was horrific, but it doesn't indict Christianity.. just as the case in Buffalo does not indict Islam. Not that this is relevant to any grand conclusion, but I have always been stunned that the Saudis conduct public beheadings by sword for criimes including apostasy. Saudi Executioner's social not impacted by the ten heads he slices off each day . . Allah's Will
Mr Beshi said his sword was a gift from the government. He keeps it razor sharp and sometimes his children help him clean it. "People are amazed how fast it can separate the head from the body," he said. Before an execution he visits the victim's family to seek forgiveness for the criminal, which can lead to the criminal's life being spared. "I always have that hope, until the very last minute, and I pray to God to give the criminal a new lease of life." Once an execution goes ahead, his only conversation with the prisoner is to tell him or her to recite the "Shahada" - an affirmation of Muslim faith. "When they get to the execution square, their strength drains away. Then I read the execution order, and at a signal I cut the prisoner's head off," he said. an experienced executioner, Mr Beshi now trains others for the grim task. He is proud that his son was taken on as an executioner. Training focuses on how to hold the sword and where to bring the blade down. Sometimes he also has to carry out amputations of hands or legs. "I use a special sharp knife, not a sword. When I cut off a hand I cut it from the joint. If it is a leg the authorities specify where it is to be taken off, so I follow that." __________________________________________________ Well, as long as its god's will.
Texans going on about the brutality of executioners. That's ******* rich. Christians have murdered untold hundreds of thousands, even millions, in the name of their beliefs. Any improvement has been but recent and might reasonably be attributed to secular inroads rather than purely religious epiphanies.
Actually my issue with SA is their laundry list of reasons to behead. That is pretty 7th century As a means of execution it seems beheading is quicker than the needle but to behead women for having the audacity to be raped is barbaric. Also beheading someone for not believing in Islam is pretty barbaric as well.
How do we tell the difference between demonization and valid social criticism? For while demonization certainly does not lead to a full understanding of the world, valid social criticism does. And so it seems useful to develop some means by which we might tell the difference between the two, so that we may practice one and avoid the other. You would seem to know this difference, or at least your response suggests as much. And if so, what is this principle that allows you to distinguish demonization from valid social criticism? Don't be stingy with your wisdom.
