I'm seeing posters discredit Texas for going 3-0 in the BCS, throwing out lame excuses, and that's stupid at best. Argue about who is better over whatever period you want, it's pretty much splitting hairs with the teams being discussed. But you're a damn retard if you have an issue with Texas accomplishments since 2003.
Clearly, USC & Florida are 1-2. You can shuffle the next four any way you wish between UT, OU, LSU & tOSU. They're all strong programs who've been consistently good this decade. After that (#6) there's really nobody else who deserves to be in the conversation. Ga. & 'Bama haven't been consistently good for the entire decade, and PSU was just awful a few years ago.
I'm not sure how any Texas fan can say with a straight face that they are better than OU over this span with they've only won their conference ONCE during that time. As far as bowl records go...yes OU has not done well lately this is a given. However, the fact that OU is winning the conference means we're getting much tougher competition in our bowl games than you guys are. I'm quite certain that you would have lost to UF this year. The team that squeaked by 6-6 Iowa would have been drilled by Boise. I'll say WVU would have been a toss up to be fair but I seriously doubt you would have one that one either...and your 2003 squad which OU KILLED would have been demolished by LSU as well. So...let's not act like you guys are somehow overachieving, shall we??
Then let's talk about under achieving Sooner Grad. OU is something like 1-8 in big games (including Texas and Bowl Games) over the last nine years. I'm about to puke over the Big 10 posts. They are pretenders and they have proven it, over and over.
I never said I was using the past 6 years as a barometer for my rankings. I don't know where people got that. I made it clear in the explanations in my rankings why I ranked each team where I did. I believe 2 NCs in 3 years puts Florida at the top of the heap. USC has won 3 straight BCS bowls and has been in the top 5 for 7 straight years. LSU has 2 NCs in 6 years and has been recruiting off the charts. Texas is also on a roll, with 3 straight BCS wins, a 3-1 streak over OU, and no sign of slipping anytime soon. I am actually tempted to say Texas should rank higher on this list than LSU. As to OU and especially tOSU, I just see those two programs at a plateau right now. They both enjoyed NCs earlier this decade but seem to have hit a wall in big games. Just my take. We'll see what the next few years bring, but I really see USC, Florida, and Texas becoming the dominant programs of the coming decade.
Utilizing the Bill Snyder Doctrine of scheduling 4 non-conference creampuffs and then only having to finish 6-3 in the remaining games is no great accomplishment. Do you guys honestly believe that Texas' record in post-season exhibition games trumps OU's six Big XII Championships and 6-3 head to head record vs. Texas in this decade? Seriously?
The national championsship is all about popularity, all things being equal the college football pecking order is: 1.Florida 2.LSU 3.Alabama 4.Tennesse 5.Aurburn 6.Gerogia 7.Arkansas 8.Mississippi 9.South Carolina 10.Kentuky 11.Mississippi State 12.Vanderbuilt 1 of these 12 teams will be in the mythical championship EVERY year. The SEC shouln't have been in this years mythical championship or in 2006
Here is an interesting stat. We all pretty much agree that USC, Florida, LSU, Texas, OU and tOSU are the teams at the top of college football right now. In games matching these teams against each other, these were the records last year: Texas 2-0 Florida 2-0 USC 1-0 LSU 0-1 tOSU 0-2 OU 0-2 I am not going to delve into each school's records vs. each other beyond last year, but I will add that Texas' record since 2005 vs. these schools is 6-2. Pretty strong rebuke for those who argue that Texas does not belong in this elite group. I am already salivating at the idea of Texas beating Florida in next year's NC game, making us the only school to have beaten every other team on this list during the decade.
"Then let's talk about under achieving Sooner Grad. OU is something like 1-8 in big games (including Texas and Bowl Games) over the last nine years. " So...beating undefeated Tech wasn't a big game? Mizzou last season in the b12 champ wasn't a big game? Beating OSU on the road at the end of the year this year wasn't a big game? Beating Mizzou AGAIN this year wasn't a big game? You guys were talking about the OU/MU/OSU/Tech stretch as the toughest 4 game stretch in college football history. After OU pasted all three of those common opponents they aren't big games anymore? Does that about sum it up??
OU fans talking trash to Texas about the 2008 South "Championship" is about as effective as USC fans talking trash to Texas about the 2005 Heisman trophy voting.
Soonergrad, I just gave you a compliment on a post in this thread earlier, but then you bust out with this ****...
