Nice start to the game. Apparently, Baylor overlooked the section in the scouting report that said A.J. Abrams was our best (and only) perimeter scorer.
Commercial break, 11:26 to play in the first half and the good guys are up on the Bible Thumpers, 19-11. Team looks sharp so far ... but it IS Baylor we're playing.
TV timeout, UT ahead, 32-25, with 2:40 left in the half. Johnson has his mid-range J back. Pittman in early foul trouble. Baylor's Kevin Rogers heating up--he's already scored 11.
Amazing how much better an offense looks when the other team isn't playing defense. I'm still a little concerned about the offensive rebounds - they're getting wayyyy too many second shots. If the threes start falling this gets a little uncomfortable. But the guys sound sharp offensively so far, keep it up!
Texas timeout after Baylor scores seven unanswered points to make it 37-33 with 35 seconds to play in the first half. Once again, we seem to lose focus toward the end of a half.
Halftime: Texas 39, Baylor 33. Best half-ending possession we've had in a number of games. Dog held the ball until about 10 seconds, then took BU off the dribble, got into the paint and passed to Chapman along the baseline, who took one big step, went up and threw it down. Of course, Baylor probably deserves as much credit for the play as Barnes and our 'Horns. :-/
For the pundits out there, what's the NBA scouting report on Rogers? He's looked pretty solid in every game I've seen this year. Rebounds well, shoots well and dribbles fairly well. Hard to assess his defense seeing as how he plays for Drew, but I was wondering if he projects at all and, if so, where. I'm guessing he's a bit of a tweener? Too small to play PF but perhaps not quite skilled enough to play the 3?
Horns are fine. They're moving the ball well and taking smart shots. Kevin Rogers is probably a little NBA suspect if for no other reason he stayed until his Senior season. That's a flag there. But, I agree he always looks athletic and capable of playing big. The announcers are annoying to me. They get off on their stories and fell to call the game...like who committed a foul, what number was it, etc. They didn't acknowledge Dexy's first left-handed hook but did on his second 12 minutes into the game. The guy's right-handed so there's something to be said there. Let's go Horns! Hook'em!!!
Second half underway. Texas up, 45-37, with 17:43 to play. Dog with another assist, Mason with a nice jumper and A.J. with a sweet floater.
TV timeout. Baylor goes on a 12-2 run to tie it up, 45-45, and with a free throw coming. After playing relatively well for the first 25 minutes, the other Texas team finally showed up.
