This "pirate" is laughing all the way to the bank. He just hit the lottery by being arrested. Rather than living in his own excrement with 10 other people in a dirt floor hut, he will now get 3 squares a day, and world class medical care for the ouchie on his hand. Probably even be some sort of book deal, "My Life as a Swashbuckler" or some ****. There will be some Americans that admire him for standing up to The Man, think he's a freedom fighter, "Free the Indian Ocean One!!" He will be a celebrity. Just watch.
Yes, he is a teenaged kid who grew up in a country where stealing and killing people for personal gain is viewed as a good thing. On one hand I feel sorrow because he does not know better or even really realize that he was doing wrong. On the other hand a clean prison cell with a clean bed , clean clothes and three meals a day is a huge improvement over what he had in Samolia. Life in prison is going to be a good thing for him.

It is interesting to learn the crew had one of the priates as hostage and offered to exchange the one pirate for the captain but the pirates reneged. I really wish many of the details, details that resulted in a good ending, were not being made public.
We'd have to take a crap load of pirates hostage to ransom for one US citizen. I've got to believe the math would be more lopsided than the Israili/PLO trades of 500 PLO fighters for 2 Israelis.

A lot of those pirates live in million dollar mansions they built with their ransom settlements. It may be true the average Somali is poor, but these pirates live high on the hog. You can't really believe they don't know it is wrong to stick up ships and hold captives for ransom, do you? Everybody that commits a crime has some reason for doing it, do you want to excuse all of them?
