Is there a more entertaining game to watch year to year in the Big 12 than this. Sure TX/OU is great, but seriously. This is golden.
Sherman: "He (Leach) can make a joke every once in awhile and everyone will laugh. But not at our expense." Oh, really? Yeah, no one ever makes a joke about aggy, no one ever laughs at your expense, wow. Leach never ceases to provide high-quality amusement for football fans everywhere, and he picks the natural target to lampoon.
I have never seen a coach talk so much trash. Of course i woudl hate for the coach of my team to act like this, but from afar, it's first rate entertainment. And does he say this stuff with a straight face?
I can't even start to say how much I'd miss Leach if he wasn't out in Lubbock any longer. From my viewpoint, he just about nails aggy.
The Aggy-Tech rivalry has really come unto it's own in recent years. Let these flames fan for a few more years, and it might become the 2nd biggest rivalry in the Big XII.
Even with locker-room material like this, I figure Tech is likely to beat the hapless agriculturals in Lubbock this year. This makes 2010 in B/CS huge. Assuming they hold serve this year and beat aggy the next, Tech will even up the all-time series-- a series A&M has led since the teams started playing. Can you imagine the hoopla in Pirateland for the potential "go ahead" game in '11? Meanwhile, aggy will continue to moan and complain about a school they refuse to recognize as a rival.
I am very happy to see that the Ags are finally acknowledging their true rivals and the pecking order in the Big XII. Very nice.
pure Leach gold... my favorite part is all the aggies all in an uproar about how McGee was 'hurt' not benched... then why did he come into so many games where the new QB was struggling? Only, naturally, to absolutely suck... I guess the only reason he sucked was that he was injured... now I wonder why Sherman kept playing an obviously injured QB... So now, the only thing that's gone right for the aggies since they beat us season before last - McGee getting drafted, and Harrell (remember what a douche he acted like in that last-second touchdown vs. aTm?) not getting drafted... and Leach has managed to piss all over their cornflakes even over that. It must really, really blow to be an aggy right now.
I see Leach has recently attended the Spurrier "school of public humiliation of teams that can't beat you". In retrospect and as a Tennessee fan I can appreciate that. Leach in my eyes has always had a good sense of humor, but I've not seen him attack another team this way this consistently. Maybe since his "contract negotiations" went so poorly and no other major college was interested in him he figured he should raise the bar and his public awareness a bit.
I think we overanalyze the hell out of Leach assuming that because he is witty and quirky there is some sinister intelligence and plan to what he says. I'd wager it is little more than he's had a few brewskies and he's got the red *** about his boy getting shafted (which I think is true) and that his "system" just got raped on national TV by a bunch of hair helmets who never played a down themselves. Most of his smack talk is no different than me and buddies taking smartassed barbs at each other during a pick-up game or whatever. He just says it and laughs as everybody else over-reacts. Sherman's slow methodical "Official Satement" response is so typically Aggy it adds to the humor. It is as if he had to form a focus group on how to respond and then get the blessing from headquarters. To me it shows how out of his element and overmatched Sherman is. And the Aggy faithful claiming some self righteous "our guy showed the appropriateness befitting a coach at a major university...blah..blah" typifies how out of touch and far behind they are. Welcome to the Big XII South Sherman. Enjoy your brief stay and learn something. If Sherman would have said something like "I'd like to thank Coach Leach for recognizing my ability to take an injured back up and quickly make him a 4th rounder in the NFL. Under some coaches a kid could start 40 plus games and still go undrafted..." Then people would start to pay attention and realize maybe this isn't the same ol' Aggy. But same ol' Aggy are we, apparently. Tradition continues. Get assraped on the field and in the press and make an Official Statement that assraping is uncalled for.
That's a great post, Lancehorn. You're exactly right about Sherman's official release coming off as nothing more than robotic and docile. If he said what you suggested about Harrell it would've raised some eyebrows and perhaps hinted at a little fire in the ag bellies. Nope. He doesn't have to be snarky, but at least fire back. The canned statement that he "released" is like throwing rocks at a battleship. That program is soaking in drudgery.
