I knew something weird in this game was going to happen when the Army odds in Vegas went from +900 to +300 about 10 minutes before first pitch [IMG]

We bunt way too much, which is Augie's fault. Our offense is pathetic. We should be much better than we are.

Just had a Roy Hobbs moment. Lightning strike within a 100 yards just knocked out power, Internet connection, everything.

Anyway, I'm back up. Hope this signals a turning point in our RISP fortunes.

Great diving catch, outfielder limps back to the dugout....we have stranded 9 runners now, 6 in the last 2 innings [IMG] [IMG]

I am sick of bunts as well...

Workman starts Henshaw off with back-to-back strikes. Next pitch misses low and another is off outside. Henshaw fouls off the 2-2 pitch, then goes down swinging for Workman's sixth K of the game in just three innings of work. One gone.

McKague blisters a triple that dies under the right-field wall. He digs and reaches third before the throw. Army again threatening, one out.

Koenigsfeld sends a grounder up the gut to score McKague. Army extends its lead to three, 7-4. Hope our hitters are taking note on how not to ******* CHOKE at the plate with RISP.

Suddenly shaky, Workman falls behind Polchinski, 3-0. Polchinski takes all the way and Workman grooves one for strike one. Polchinski can't catch up to the next one, however, and the count runs full. Four pitches are fouled off before Workman freezes him for strike three. That's 4Ks for Polchinski on the day. Two gone, Fleming up.

Fleming works the count to 2-2 before skying one to left that takes Hernandez to the warning track. David makes the catch to end the inning and the Army threat with the Black Knights ahead, 7-4.

To the bottom of the 7th ...

Some serious rethinking of our batting preparation of the players and strategy as well is needed.

who knows, if we hadn't given up a free out that inning, Belt could have had a 2-run sac fly there.

Just cant seem to get the clutch hit and now Army with a one out triple. They seem to be able to score whenever a runner gets to third.

Thats how its frickin done. Now 7-4. [IMG]

Meanwhile Workman is just about used up and he has thrown so much that he is probably done for tomorrow.

Gapper in right goes for 3. They ruled a triple, but Maitland had trouble getting it out of his glove. He had just come in for Rowe. Hit makes it 7-4.

We need to get busy because it looks like Monday afternoon baseball to me

Well, it sure would make it easier to look at this Army performance as uplifting if they werent kicking the teeth in of our guys. We sure could learn a thing or two from them.

I"m not surprised at all. After we got past the 20th inning or so, I posted that Army would have an advantage over both of the teams that were involved in a 20+ inning affair.

I think what Augie needs to do now is abandon his bunt strategy and just tell the guys to treat it like batting practice.

IOW, just swing away at anything that looks good. Work on your swing.

Is Cole Green the likely starter tomorrow? Have to believe everyone but Wood will be considered available.
