I can't see Conan carrying the Tonight Show. To me, his humor is an acquired taste. I still don't get it after all these years.
Jay is such a nice guy he shafted one of his closest friends to get the Tonight Show and now he is screwing over Conan by taking a job the hour before.
All that may be true, but he is still head and shoulders above Letterman. Talk about corny and absolutely no humor.
My buddy recently went to Vegas. They were at a late night fast food place. In walks Leno. They all looked at him. one of them said "hey jay, how's it going" and he said "whats up guys" blah blah He got his food and was walking out the door, turned around to the group of guys and said, "hey guys, the girls are coming soon, right?" Pretty funny stuff.
Leno: appeals to the geriatric crowd. Jokes like "Jaywalking" make dumb viewers feel smarter for knowing answers to questions that retards get wrong. If you haven't read "The Late Shift," it paints Jay as an insecure guy who doesn't have a clue what he's doing. Letterman: appeals to people who were loyal to his NBC show. He's not really "funny," from a comedy standpoint, but his mannerisms and sarcasm are why people still watch after all these years. Conan: definitely an acquired taste. He's not going to be funny to 40+ year-old people, which will hurt the Tonite Show's demo for a little while. But he's more likable than Letterman, and smart too. Daly: funnier than most think he is (probably because he got a knack for being a no-talent douche for many years), but unknown to people who never watched MTV. Ferguson: also very funny, but you'd have to sit through Letterman to get to his show, and CBS viewers don't usually stay up that late. Kimmel: similar to Conan in that he's smart and funny, but older people can't tolerate the silly humor like ******* Ben Affleck and the Matthew Fox staring contest. Jimmy is probably next in line for an earlier spot opening, whether at 11:30 eastern or even prime time (like his specials).
Jay is such a nice guy he shafted one of his closest friends to get the Tonight Show and now he is screwing over Conan by taking a job the hour before. -------------------------------------------------------- Am I mistaken as I thought Leno recommended Conan as his replacement. Leno moving to a different slot is giving Conan the opportunity of a lifetime.
As I said Leno got old very fast, he is not Carson and he is miles below Letterman, Conan and now Ferguson.
Is Stuttering John still opening the show? If not, I guess he will have to go back to harassing people for Howard Stern.
No Melendez didn't get the spot. Apparently he was told that he'd get a chance to audition for it, and then found out in the news that Andy had already been given the position. I bet he'll probably still do stuff for Leno's prime time show.
that first week of kimmel's show when snoop dogg came as a guest and stayed for a week while they both got hammered on live tv was awesome!
"Leno has 11 consecutive years rated higher than Letterman. Scoreboard." Because moderate Americans trust NBC for their nightly news instead of CBS. And then don't change the channel because they're already in bed falling asleep anyways.
No offense, but I question the all omnipotent stance that some are taking on this. I'd be willing to bet that there are varying reason as to why people may or may not like these shows.
I think what Conan has over all of the other talk show hosts, is that he is very quick witted and seems to improv very well. Letterman is decent at this, and Leno is down right horrible at it.
Craig Ferguson has contributed to my insomnia quite a bit lately. I don't know why I don't just DVR his show and watch it the next day, but I find it difficult to watch a late night show at any other time.... But, as someone else mentioned, Ferguson is hilarious and hey, what's one less hour of sleep?
