This is bizarre and really stupidThe Link "Under the cover of morning fog, a group of around 10 Palestinian gunmen armed with “huge amounts of explosives” launched a failed Gaza border assault at the Karni Crossing on Monday, in which booby-trapped horses were used, a security source told the Jerusalem Post. At least four terrorists were killed in an ensuing exchange of fire with the IDF. No Israeli soldiers were injured in the incident. The terror cell belonged to the Janud Ansar Allah (Soldiers Loyal to Allah) organization, a small group which is linked to Iran and Hizbullah, the security source added. Members of the cell, some of whom had suicide bomb belts strapped around their bodies, led the horses off of trucks and began planting explosive devices along the fence. They were identified by IDF soldiers on patrol, of Golani’s 13th Batallion. The gunmen proceeded to open fire on the troops, while mortar fire from deep within the Gaza Strip was also directed at the soldiers. " I especially like this quote from a " moderate peaceful muslim" of the Hamas wing running the gov't in Gaza "Ismail Haniyeh, who heads Gaza’s Hamas government, praised the attackers as “martyrs,” and said the violence confirmed Israel’s “aggressive intentions” toward the Palestinians." So idiotic muslims strap bombs to horses and try to get across into Israel and a peacful muslim accuses Israelis of being aggressive? I guess not all muslims saw Obama's speech.

So idiotic muslims strap bombs to horses and try to get across into Israel and a peacful muslim accuses Israelis of being aggressive? __________________________________________________ This is normally how israel gets labeled one of the causes of the "situation" in the middle east. Bombers on hoses come storming through and shoot at Israeli soldiers, Israeli's fire back in defense. Hamas fires multiple missiles into israeli cities and towns, israel retaliates by attacking areas where missiles are being fired from, israel gets blamed for comflict. suicide bomber blows up bus, car or market in jerusalem, israel retaliates by bulldozing area where bomber is from, israel caused bombers frustration... Israel is the bad guy, they have no right to defend themselves.
I've always felt that the only reason terrorists don't do more damage is that they always seem to use the young, uneducated and essentially useless to perform the operations. The masterminds don't tend to get sent out on suicide missions.
My favorite: The Muslim world declares war on the new state of Israel to end her existence, perpetuates this war for decades, and then labels Israel an "occupier" for holding land indefinitely pending a final peace settlement which the Palestinian leadership still refuses to agree to. Somehow the Muslim world has never understood why Israel doesn't peacefully agree to be destroyed by Islamic militants. In their eyes this makes Israel a brutal, militaristic occupier.
Most if not all the posters on the West Mall are guilty of logical fallacies in making their arguments (myself included). It would be lovely if that would change (at least a bit), however people have very strong preconceived notions about those they have argued with in the past and they all-too-often do not let those arguments go when another topic is being discussed. And then, of course there is John Gabriel's Greater Internet F***wad theory; after all this is an online forum and this principal applies unequivocably to any outlet for online communication.
BI Since Hamas was mentioned in the speech as having a role in the peace process you would have to include Hamas in the millions of muslims to whom Obama was speaking. This is the what was said about the incident from the Hamas wing running the gov't in Gaza "Ismail Haniyeh, who heads Gaza’s Hamas government, praised the attackers as “martyrs,” and said the violence confirmed Israel’s “aggressive intentions” toward the Palestinians." It is hard for anyone to move a compromise forward with people who hate so deeply. Can anyone remind me why the Palistenians rejected the Barak /Clinton 2002 peace plan?
Hip thanks for the date correction. Of course it was not a 2002 clinton plan. Duh I need to read more on this but thanks or the correction
Americans volunteer for military service in order to have a better life. Islamists volunteer for a better death. All the same to you, though. Right?; (moral relativism being your mantra).
Actually Jameson you are incorrect. In this country we elect the essentially useless to office. Sure, they're not young, and they generally have gone to fine schools, but education does not equate to intelligence.
Bi You ."Of course Hamas is never going to agree with anything the US does. " Hamas has made that clear both in word and deed just since Obama's speech. I wonder if Obama made it worse by saying Hamas must end violence and recognize Israel. So would you have fhe USA ignore Hamas?
I strongly suspect you have completely fictionalized your background. No one that took the time to get a philosophy degree at MIT would be so easily duped by liberal talking points or prone to illogical ramblings. You yourself said that our young people are convinced to kill other people's children through technology in a lame, brainless, pathetically partisan attempt to simplify what our soldiers are doing. You can deride the teh soldiers in the field all you want but don't pretend they are all sitting in armchairs in Nevada piloting drones remotely. It is shallow and lame. Also, don't pretend that this was a Republican thing. At least include Clinton and Obama in your sweeping indictments.
and finally, try to actually discuss the points presented to you. You have supposedly thought about this sort of debate/discussion in your life.
How does using quotes without providing any context or telling the whole story give anyone an accurate account of history?
