its a step down. a big step down. his dream job would be to coach at ND if he didn't have to resurrect the program. He'll never have access to the same athletes.
I personally think he'd love to be the one to resurrect that program. Why would he want to wait for someone else to do it so they can get all the credit? Remember you're talking about a guy with an ego of epic proportions. Granted bringing Florida back was easier than bringing Notre Dame back will be, but it's not because of access. Kids from Florida (and everywhere else) would flock to Notre Dame to play for Urban Meyer if he could get them in. The problem is the school will only give him a pass on a handful of players a year. The rest will have to get into school on their own merits, and you see right away why that's a problem at a place like Notre Dame.
Sounds very logical to me. Meyer has nothing left to prove in Fla and would make money and prestige going to ND (presuming he wins).
I dont think so. Penn St, Michigan, Ohio St, Notre Dame, Wisconsin and some other programs all have the resources and access to local talent to field very good football teams. I remember at the begining of the decade people saying that Michigan 1997 MNC was going to be the last northern school to win it all and then Ohio St schocked the World by beating the Canes. Its all cylical.
This 'Bama homer Finebaum just has a serious "I hate Urban Meyer" boner. This story means nothing. Just more speculation from some "sportswriter" who knows less about college football than most first-graders.
if meyer wins another mnc, he may want to try working his magic at his dream job. i don't know if i would leave fla, but i don't think it's crazy to think that he may go.
In reply to: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- However I think the window on the Northern Schools continuing to be competitive in football is closing. Fewer and fewer people want to go to small towns to freeze every fall. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "I hate those notre dame cocksuckers. But this is a crock of ****. If it were true, San Diego St. would outrecruit Texas...the ******* weather is better here, there is no argument about that. " The weather is fantastic in SD and better than anywhere in Texas, no doubt. However, you are forgetting that pesky little thing called a football program in SD (SD St. does not qualify). Very few Texas or Florida kids would go to SD because the weather is very pleasant v. very hot several months a year in TX & FL. The point is very few players are going to wade through 2' of snow to go to class when the home state crowd is still in flip flops, and do not forget the hot chicks in TX and the south v. the mediocre talent in South Bend.
The crazy thing about weather is, people have different tastes. I have never had any desire to live in California because I like having seasons.
Hmmm...speaking of Saban...how did that "I'm not leaving the Dolphins to coach Alabama" thing work out? Meyer's lips were moving...you know what that means in coach-speak, don't you?
