Agree Yo. This thread started out on a topic I was really interested in and has gradually spiraled out of control. Too bad.

There have been some remarkably juvenile posts in this thread. I hope these posts have been made by high school or junior high kids without their parents knowledge. As a UT alum, it would be humiliating to discover that any of these childish posts were made by any current or former UT students.

Socialism and its forms are collapsing globally because government can no longer afford it. Margret Thatcher eloquently explains: “The problem with socialism is eventually you run out of someone else’s money.”

There will be a revolution in the US, preferably at the ballot box. Blue Dog Rep. Mike Ross understands that the US is collapsing under the weight of socialist programs that it can no longer afford. Actually, the fear is that the US will no longer be able to borrow to bestow unaffordable goodies on its voters.

Who is Margaret Hatcher? And why does she think that problem is unique to socialism? Or was W a socialist?

I have always liked the blue dogs since I lived in west Texas and the panhandle for a while and admired the dance the dems did to keep getting elected in those zones.

The blue dogs seem to me to be the only people around with their wits about them. They realize that the best of intentions have to be paid for and that the current zeitgeist does not put a premium on paying for things now or even considering the long run. This would be my big disappointment with the O man. Let's get this thing rolling and then we will figure out how to pay for it is not a good plan because later on the congress and president, whoever that may be, will say that the thing rolls so far and we haven't had to pay for it so let's just keep it that way for a while longer or at least until the next election has come and gone and maybe some smart guy or gal will figure out how to pay for it.

Republicans used to think about things like this but no more. They are too busy now trying to figure out how many stem cells will fit in the pews at the megachurch or some such.

So, my vote is for the blue dogs.

Yes, but Ronald Reagan said we could increase spending and cut taxes and we have done that repeatedly and it works just great and we get these neat deficits as a bonus.

W said we could keep our house in order by adding an unfunded seniors prescription drug plan to Medicare and that has worked out great as well---the seniors get a free drug program and in addition we all get a big new deficit on top of the others we already had.

Obama now has a health plan that if passed will cover even more people and will be funded by more taxes on rich people in part and on wishful thinking in part. I know we will get an added deficit prize with this one too.

So as long as we keep getting these nice deficits along with the goodies, why should we complain or change?

Deficits don't matter. Dick Cheney said so and he must be right, because he was the brains behind one of our brainiest presidents, the only one who had degrees from both Harvard and Yale.

More Ivy League geniuses = more defiicits.

Whoop, as our aggie friends say.

I guess once again it would be silly of me to point out the obvious... that the Democratic party is simply a more diverse group than the GOP. The ability to reign in all the party for votes is one of the GOP's biggest strength's and ultimately one of it's biggest weaknesses.

The Dems have to negotiate within their own party and with the other party. Think back to the days of Tom DeLay, and the lockstep voting of the GOP.

I also tend to agree with an earlier assessment that the GOP needs to become more moderate, but thus far it looks like shoring up the demographically ever shrinking base is still the main focus because the party is semi-held hostage by the religious right that now dominated the operational side of the equation.

I wish more folks in the GOP were like the Blue Dogs then we could have a more moderate and collegial Legislative Branch again.

Other countries like their "socialist programs" and pay for them in higher taxes.

who cares if the fascist faction of the party runs it and everyone else is pressured to goose step in line. diversity for the sake of diversity is not always a good thing.

We are getting close to European unemployment rates, so your friends across the pond should be proud of us.
