Flipping through July's Texas Monthly this morning, stopping to peruse the article about the moon landing. In the article is a picture of the astronauts in a ticker tape parade in NYC. I remember going to one in downtown Chicago for them. It is a memory as clear as day, remember what I wore, even seeing Fahey Flynn (local newscaster/celebrity) and getting his autograph on the handbill they were passing out. It was an event! Not a long parade, probably not more than 8 or 10 cars and a bunch of motorcycles, but it made a big impression on 12 year old me. There were other TT parades through downtown, but that is the only one my parents took us all to. What a way to honor those men. I miss ticker tape parades!
list of ticker tape parades in nyc we used to ticker tape every single foreign president that came to nyc. seems a bit extravagant.
every time i see footage of a ticker tape parade, i always think to myself "hmmm...someone's gonna have to clean all that up"
I don't think we need one for every foreign president, but it was definitely warranted for the astronauts.
its new york, they dont clean their streets. stuff probably just washes down the drains and into the hudson
