Flipping through July's Texas Monthly this morning, stopping to peruse the article about the moon landing. In the article is a picture of the astronauts in a ticker tape parade in NYC. I remember going to one in downtown Chicago for them. It is a memory as clear as day, remember what I wore, even seeing Fahey Flynn (local newscaster/celebrity) and getting his autograph on the handbill they were passing out.

It was an event! Not a long parade, probably not more than 8 or 10 cars and a bunch of motorcycles, but it made a big impression on 12 year old me. There were other TT parades through downtown, but that is the only one my parents took us all to. What a way to honor those men. I miss ticker tape parades!

I don't think we need one for every foreign president, but it was definitely warranted for the astronauts.
