so a belief based on a man in the sky is more compelling than a belief based on doing right by my fellow man here on earth. got it, mop. actually, that's exactly what i expected too.

you think your beliefs are more compelling simply because you have a god. that's perhaps the most honest thing you've unveiled on WM in awhile.

you continue to miss the point almost entirely....

what is "doing right" even mean if there is no standard for "right" johnny? have you realized how meaningless it is to say that something is right just because you happen to think it is? a generation ago many thought it was fine to discriminate based upon the color of someone's skin. they thought that was "right." why are you any more correct today?

this is slipping into the "moral compass" argument that was a no-win months ago.

i just don't buy the argument that living by your god's rules are any better, simple because you've got a book.

i think it's perfectly possible for people to have an internal sense of right and wrong, and i fully understand that this internal sense is different among people, places, and times. i further realize that this causes you much consternation. oh well.

i think it's a pretty simple belief to think that we should be better stewards of our home planet than we have been thusfar. i see no reason to go any deeper than that because that IS the core belief.

and mop brings it full circle.

it is not about science, it is about god.

just like evolution. just like intelligent design. just like global warming.

if you have no faith based reason, then gtfo, right, mop?

nice try Hayden....wouldn't you love for that to be true?

i said nothing of the sort, i just said that moral reasoning based on a hunch is vacuous and i stand by that statement. that has nothing to do with the science or why we accept something scientifically. you are mixing things up because it is simpler for you to do so.

How easy is it to ALWAYS answer a question with a question? Is it intellectually honest or is a pattern of obfusciation designed to specifically avoid answering a question posed?

What we do know is that despite ALL other time frames that we have data for we have NEVER EVER seen changes of the same degree in so short a time frame, NEVER.

However I, like mop, understand that there is absolutely no reason to worry or have concern about a climate change in a degree never before observed. Because we know it's all part of the master plan of the Intelligent Designer...

GT....my quote in no way shows sensitivity. i was being descriptive. johnny misrepresented himself as somehow abused by me and simultaneously showing my faith respect. you tried to defend this. both of you were incorrect based upon history. i notice that you stopped trying to defend your silly claim and are now trying a different tack. in both cases you were wrong.

i am fine with being criticized for being a Christian. if i wasn't, i would be a fool to come onto a UT politics board and mention it. i graduated from UT in philosophy....i assure you that i was not in the majority and i my faith was not treated with respect.

but that doesn't change the simple facts of what Johnny and subsequently you were trying to claim. they were false claims.

but in a larger context....Christians are persecuted around the world in ways you can't imagine. i am grateful to live in a place where that is not the case....but the price to pay for that is a weaker Christianity and a weaker Christian community overall. i am not sure if it is worth the price.
