I have always been an independent but it is clear to me now that the GOP is by far the stronger party. Despite a vast democratic majority in congress and a democratic president the GOP, at least according to democrats, is a major problem when trying to pass any laws and have prevented health care legislation. I keep hearing Obama and other democrats talk and complain about the need to work across the aisle to get legislation passed. I can't count the number of times I've heard complaints about the great GOP stumbling block in congress. 40 republican senators and 178 republican congressmen are stopping 58 democratic senators, 255 democratic congressman, and the president from accomplishing their agenda. The republicans are obviously superior legislators and I want to support a party that can actually get things done.

The Republicans had both houses of Congress and the Presidency from 2000-2006 and, among other things, gave us the prescription drug benefit, no child left behind, an entire new cabinet-level department (Homeland Security) and a war that we were told would not only be over in "six days, six weeks .... I doubt six months" and would pay for itself.

Was it really the power of Republicans or was it because that majority of the people in this country realized that it was an ill thought out, exorbitantly expensive, government intruding disaster?

If you haven't noticed, there are plenty of democrats who do not agree with this. Just because it didn't go the way you wanted it, doesn't make it wrong.

But, sure, go ahead and join the republican party.

Spending money = getting things done.

I think most of you missed the point of the post. Maybe you should go back and read it. You are so caught up in the labels you missed the idea.

    Try again.

"It proves the sad state of politics in this country when people just want to be on the winning side, regardless of the cost to the American populace. The fact that only someone from these two worthless parties can become the leader of this country does not bode too well for the future".......Texas Rocks........8-17-09

If the above point could be better said, I'd like to see it!

Instead of belonging to one of the two "kill America clubs", why don't Americans try a different party, for a change?

    Htown,

Which republican hopeful do you see beating BHO for the Presidency? Palin, Limbaugh, Sanford, Gingrich?

Second- since stopping legislation from happening is an "accomplishment", will you change your stance should some form of health care and energy policy get passed within the next year?

What Sgt. Longhorn said. Maybe if I had omitted the last line the point would have been clearer.

You were WAY too subtle and sarcastic. I did enjoy reading all the knee jerk from both "sides", though.
