Good either way. I hope they catch a whole **** ton of dwi drivers. I hope they make lots of money in the process.
I hated cops for years after the treatment I got as a teenager. One time I got stopped and given two tickets-no rear license plate light, and going around a corner over 10 mph. That was a fun experience when you are 17. There is doing something hazardous, and there is violating the letter of the law, and those are two different things.
^^^^ I agree with accurate horn. There were several times I was pulled over/ticketed for things when I was a teenager that they most likely would have never done to an adult.
this is a money grab and a way to pull people over for dwi, searches etc. its a waste of resources, using an empty bus, having patrol cars ready, etc. Just have the patrol cars out cruising around normally if the driving is so out of control. that will slow down a lot more people than this covert operation they have. I heard on the radio the other day that they did this all day and only gave out 26 tickets. That much money and manpower to only give out 26 tickets is retarded. The two motorcycle cops that gave me a ticket the other morning probably did that just in the morning rush. I'm getting sick of this new gestapo police chief acevedo. cameras, covert buses, no refusal, etc. Meanwhile people are getting mugged and beaten just going out on 6th/warehouse district.
Great news! This is my biggest peve on the road. Especially when it is cutting me off on top of that. Get your hand off your freakin' cell phone, get a headset, and use your damned turned signal!! Even worse though is when they change lanes and then turn the signal on half way thru the lane change. It is not for a matter of legality people, it is to signal the other drivers of your weaving on the road on intent to do so. Of course in Austin, people seem so afraid that if they put their turn signal on that others won't let them in so I think that contributes at times.
Yes, my wife got observed, I think, by the bus full of cops, probably cruising around with a margarita machine, then sending out the cruiser to nab the major criminal on the loose. Now she will have to take defensive driving for $125 or thereabouts. I doubt any of you who claim to always use your signals actually always use your signals. There are times when you could be observed changing a lane without using a signal, those times when there isn't someone right around you, nobody uses then 100% of the time.
2 days ago I had a real pleasant run-in with the SAPD. There was some sort of crew that was pulling pipe or cables or something and in a nutshell the SAPD (I assume) put down a bunch of cones. Problem is, they effectively blocked me in to the business I was visiting. Seriously, there was no way out, but to go in between cones. At least I couldn't figure out a way. When I did this ******* officer comes flying out of a bar where he must have been getting some A/C instead of directing traffic screaming obscenities at me. He called me a "stupid ************" said "goddamnit" and also called me an *******. I told him I was sorry if I broke a rule, but I couldn't figure out any other way to get out of the mechanic's business where I was picking up a car. He told me he didn't want to hear any sorry ***, ************* excuses from me. Al the while he's spewing dip juice all over me. My son, who was following me, got the same treatment. My son has heard me use plenty of foul language so that wasn't really the issue. It was just so unprofessional. Anyway, I thought about it for a while and went back to speak to him. He was in the same bar and he said I was lucky he didn't write me a ticket and I told him that I would gladly take a ticket if I could speak with his boss. He then pulled his nightstick and told me to get the f**k outta there or he would beat me to a bloody pulp. In the letter I wrote to the police chief I mentioned that a simple traffic violation just doesn't warrant that type of treatment or threats of violence that aren't even allowed to be used on murderers. I doubt I'll ever hear aything back, but it made me feel better.
New jackass officer story. Got caught in Bee Cave because when the speed limit sign changed the limit from 55 to 60 I sped up to 65 about 2 seconds too early. After he looks at my license he asks my weight. This seems an odd request since he has my height listed on the license and can clearly see I'm average build, and no officer before has needed my weight. So I ask "My weight? Really?" and he started making fun of me saying only girls worry about giving out their weight. Then he asks my SSN, which seems really out of the ordinary. He has my DL# and license plate and can verify anything he needs to, my SSN isn't a freaking national ID number or personal password. But he's got a badge and a gun, so what can I do? I start telling him the number. Unfortunately, being the type of person who doesn't keep a straight face easily, and who generally stays lighthearted in tense situations as a way of keeping myself calm and polite, I made the dreaded mistake of chuckling slightly before reciting the number. So halfway through writing it down he suddenly stops writing and goes off on this long lecture of how this is no place to smile and laugh about things and he wants to take as little time as possible and he knows I don't want to be here either, and it'd go a lot smoother if I'd quit with the antics and just tell him my number. My response is "Sir, I just gave you the number you asked me for", which prompts another monologue about how my attitude is wasting his time, and he needs to see more seriousness from me because this situation isn't humorous. Clearly his "I want to get out of here" shtick was BS since he was the only one wasting anybody's time with his soap box speech. What kind of unmitigated arrogance does it take to believe that everyone else should conform their mannerisms and facial expressions to suit your whim? And is it really proper for cops to be making you give your SSN for a traffic stop or should I be calling the Bee Cave to ask why their officers are asking for information they shouldn't?
Bee Cave? Don't they have their own police department complete with kangaroo court? Or am I thinking of Rollingwood? A friend had a bad experience there a few years back. The small town police who are brother-in-law of the judge are the worst ones to run into. I don't think they have the right to ask your Social Security number, though. (???)
all public entities are hurting for money. all rules will be enforced to the hilt to try to lessen that shortage. watch your pooper.
meh. I live in Kansas at the moment and they are going to start ticketing for driving in the left line while not passing someone next year. For now, they are pulling you over for it and issuing warnings.
Good times are coming, because I believe that a local law has just been passed that will now require a mandatory blood draw be taken from anyone whom causes an accident in which there is an injury. This is bad enough, but the next step will most certainly be a mandatory blood draw for any and all traffic stops. Lawmakers are doing their absolute best to prove that they're the ones in control of your freedom, and not you.
