He was prepared to defend his home and his family. And did so. I cannot imagine the thought process of anyone who has a problem with that.
Yo, we agree on most West Mall issues so I'll give you a pass when you try to give gun owners a chance at showing compassion. You can read the posts of general35 and his type. The bigger the gun the smaller the penis, right?
if it turns out that the "homeowner" was a dope dealer, and "protecting his family" really means "protecting his stash" will you guys feel the same way?
I have mixed feelings about guns, but I have no issues with a person whose home was invaded by armed thugs defending him home and property. What would have happened had he not shot the teens? We can't say. We might be reading about the deaths of three burglary victims. I don't see happy endings for anybody in this. In the movies the bad guys getting capped typically are one-dimensional bad people. In real life a lot of people doing something stupid and evil (like a home invasion) otherwise lead stellar or unremarkable lives. The man defending his home didn't have the luxury of spending a lot of time sorting out the long term consequences. The home invaders made him awaken in the middle of the night and make life or death decisions in a few seconds.
This guy, if he were able, might, just might, have wished he had a gun. But of course then he would have been a gun-toting right-wing whacko with Rambo fantasies. Some of you just amaze me. But I locked the doors......
What??? Kick in the door??? I thought if a door was locked that would be enough. Of course someone inside did have a gun in this one. Lucky>The Link
The point that seems to be missed here is that this event did not occur in a vacuum. I seriously doubt this was these criminals first rodeo. If they're successful, then there is no way this is their last. This homeowner seems to have done the law-abiding community an enormous favor.
Some friends in high school broke into a house. Two of the kids were holding guns, but they didn't think anyone was home. Someone was home, however, and the kids shot the wife and killed her, and shot the man and paralyzed him. Very similar stories with two very different endings.
PH -- The scenario you describe -- simply worrying about cleaning up the mess of bullet holes and biological waste -- is what we see in TV and in the movies. I used to report on police and court activity. It's never that simple. The man who defended his home will have to deal with social and emotional consequences. Were it me I'd probably hire an attorney to be prepared for any potential civil or criminal legal consequences.
The other thing we need to see is that these kids weren't cardboard sillouttes or extras in a movie. They were multi-dimensional human beings whose lives had promise and value. Again I'll not defend their actions, which were stupid, dangerous and wrong., What they did was a criminal felony of armed robbery that carries an automatic prison sentence for adults convicted of the crime. I'm not criticizing guns or the man who shot the teens. I'm just pointing out that this is real life, not a Stephen Segal movie. The Link andThe Link
AustinBat: And I’m sure there are people who had their gun taken by burglars and then used against them. Anecdotal evidence is ****. 53 Veer Pass:
Those that want to lock their doors and hide go for it. I choose to protect my family with force if necessary.
