What if aggy is decent this year?

    And what would that mean?

They beat a New Mexico team that lost basically everyone including most of their staff. Still though, this would have been a 4th quarter come-from-behind win if this were last year. 2009, this game was never really in doubt.

I think they beat Utah State, but UAB is going to be be a big test. UAB's QB threw and ran all over the place against Rice. My prediction is that if A&M can win the UAB game, they have a chance in conference to win some games. No way do they get by Arkansas.

So basically, I think A&M has a chance to be decent. If they win the UAB game, they could probably win the Colorado and Kansas State games, along with the given Iowa State W. This would make them 6-6 and bowl eligible.

I know 6-6 is far from "decent", but by their standards, going to a bowl game is a big step up.

After their 41-6 win against UNM, does anyone else think the Ags might actually be better than last year?

Hope they do better than anticipated. Anything to help our SOS after we beat them.

i actually think aggy can beat arky. arky is really not very good. aggy was competitive in a lot of games last year and sherman is a good coach despite the flack he gets on here. they are capable of beating tech this year and baylor, both those games could go either way. im not sure who they play in the north but they wont beat ok st., ou, or texas. they have a decent qb that makes plays and as long as they have that, they will be competitive in most of their games as long as the defense holds up. they have a shot at 7 wins which would be a miraculous year for them.

Flip a coin. 5-7 seems about as likely as 7-5. Just don't see more wins or losses than 8.

I hope they do well enough to keep Sherman, and hope their success combined with an off-year in Norman means they steal a few recruits from OU.

I do think they're going to be at least average. Aggie hyperbole aside, JJ is a talent, and he certainly has the ability to make a lot of things happen for them. I think it would be premature to just write them off as an easy W. But we'll know more when they play a real team.

I just don't have a good read on this year's aggy team yet. I think they are marginally better than last year, but it would be hard to imagine them being a lot worse than that. I think 6-6 or 7-5 sounds about right, with probable losses to OSU, TT, OU, Baylor, and Texas. I don't have much of a read on this year's Arky team either, but they seem roughly on par with aggy at this point. Given the neutral site for that game, I would call it a toss-up.
aggy looks better offensively with Jerrod Johnson and Christine Michael, but I think their D is still their Achille's heel. The Big Boys in the conference will overpower them with their depth, and teams like Baylor and TT will exploit mismatches in their D with scheme. I honestly don't know that aggy has any answers on D for Robert Griffin at this point. aggy's best bet to win games this season is to keep their O on the field as long as possible.

Still, my prediction is that aggy will finish up bowl eligible, and all our aggy neighbors will crow about how their program is back since they will be going bowling for the first time in umpteen seasons or something. (I can't remember when they went bowling last, nor can be really bothered to look it up.) [IMG]

EDIT: with regard to the Texas game, I would call a win over aggy as probable
    , but definitely not easy.

aggy is never an easy W. Last year was a aberration, the games are usually close. They fight against us like the russians did at stalingrad. even in 2005 when we were peaking, they gave us the best game of any team other than tOSU and USC and our game was at home that year.

If they beat Colorado and KSU, which looks like a pretty simple task at this point, they could be 3-5 in conference even if they go 0-fer in the South. Them being 6-6 is good bull for them, but not only is them being bowl eligible important at this point, but winning it is huge; they haven't won a bowl game since they beat TCU in the Galleryfurniture.com Bowl of 2001.

I think they will be a pretty good team in 2010, maybe winning as many as 10 games, given their O-line will be upperclassmen with a lot of experience. Basically the Ags are a year away from being a very good team. This year, they are going to be a victim of being in the country's most competitive conferences.

But back to this year, if they beat UAB, I could see them giving Arkansas a run for their money. If they are 7-2 going into the OU game, they are going to be absolutely unbearable.

aggy will be decent this year. i don't know if that gets them much more than 6 or 7 wins, but they will be better.

My brother is an aggy grad (He majored in Coloring Book Literature). He is not optimistic that they will win a single Big 12 game this year.

If you define "decent," as playing Baylor close and not getting ***-raped by every other Big 12 South team, then aggy has a chance at being decent. [IMG]

Aggy is not relevant, at least not at this point. They are wrought with underclassmen starting and Shermy wants it that way. He's hedging his bets with a more experienced aggy team come 2011 & 2012. Although 2012 won't make a **** because that's when Obama blows up the world, per the Mayans & aggy. [IMG]

They have talent on that team so to assume aggy is a lay-down W is bad mojo however to say they get to a bowl game is 60/40%. To say they win at Tech and/or Norman, or against OSU, Baylor or us at Pyle Field is highly unlikely. Arky is a toss-up as is UAB & KSU.

They definitely suck an egg in one of the "other" bowls that they will barely qualify for.

The Suck that is aggy continues...

I hope that Sherman finds a way to win 6 games. If they go 5-7 or worse, I worry that Art Briles might be the next coach at ATM, which is a lot more dangerous than Sherm.

It seems inevitable that someone will come calling for Briles with a big checkbook in the near future. I'm hoping that ATM's eventual firing of Sherm doesn't coincide with Briles haven proven that he's ready for a bigger job (which could be this year).

They have an incredibly easy schedule this season. They win 7 games minimum.

    - They should beat New Mexico State, Utah State, and UAB.
    - They play the 3 worst teams in the Big 12 North. I'm giving them all three (K-State, Iowa State, and Colorado)
    - I'm giving them at least 1 of the following 4 (Arky, TT, Oklahoma, and Baylor)
    - They'll also play a crappy bowl game. Min Wins: 7 Max Wins: 9

I actually think the Shermanator and his staff are doing a reasonably good job with aggy. They've gotten rid of some dead wood, (No bonfire reference intended...) and gotten most of the players left to buy into the system.

They're still too young, too slow (but quicker than last year.) and not deep enough in good players to hold their own in the Big XII south, but if they win five or six games this year, they'll be a lot better five or six win team than they've been. They might even set themselves up, with one more good recruiting class, to break even or a little better next year.

I've ragged on Sherman as much as anyone else here, but I've got to admit he's doing a better job than I expected.

All of that being said, I still expect aggy to finish dead last in the division this year, but not in the conference. (Thank you Colorado and ISU.)

As it stands today aggy should go minimum 6-6 with 3 OOC wins plus Iowa State, K state and Colorado who are all terrible. That means their game with their arch rival Baylor is the difference between .500 and a 7-5 season. Even 6-6 though is better than many thought just a few weeks ago.

Reference the comment about Briles...I really don't expect him to bail on Baylor anytime soon. He's got his program running pretty smoothly, he's recruiting to Baylor very well (And Waco is central to some very fertile recruiting areas.) and the Baptists are known to pay their coaches pretty nicely.

Briles, by staying at Baylor, gets to be a big frog in a small pond, and has a very supportive administration backing him, and the athletic facilities are in nice shape and being improved.

I just don't get it that aggy would be that significant an improvement over Baylor. He might make a little more money, but he'd have to live in collie station (I've lived in Waco and collie station...I'd choose Waco, if I had to.) and he'd have to put up with Dollar Bill and the aggy administration, not to mention their delusional fanbase.

I could see Briles leaving Baylor for a LEGITIMATE step up program...but not soon, and not aggy.

How many time since the fedex days has aggy started the season 3-0 or 4-0? then they pump themselves up only to lose a terrible team (arkie) then the tide turns and they end the season 4-8 or 5-7

Texas is not going to f**k around and derail itself like it did last year with it's shabby Tech performance. A&M will have a home field advatage with the referees, as usual even when they are here.

I for one hope like Hell A&M has a great ******* season, as I am tired of having one of our "big" games where it costs $100 a ticket automatically hurt our computer rankings the moment we step on the field.
