You mean we shouldn't just use his exact words. We should use the context and tone...........perhaps make some inferences........hmm interesting.
Yeah he was being sarcastic..........but as someone of a decidedly more liberal bent than his, I can't help but apply some evil alterior movtive to those coments. Such as an all out race war. All too often he plays to the lowest common denominator. Critics of those comments and one's like Glen Beck's saying Obama has a deep seated hate for white people, are more concerned with the sheer reckless nature of the things they say than whether or not they actually believe it. Throw bombs today and then claim innocence when confronted with the damage, I hear it pays well.
If his Grand Pomposity didn't cross the lines of racial insensitivity, can you tell me why he was booted as a football commentator? That was a fact you cannot dispute, am I correct? Or are you apologists going to claim that was a liberal fabrication as well? There's no disputing the guy has a poor image among African-Americans.
the funniest thing about the McNabb comments and are that anyone who really remembers this season and when it happened will also remember Tom Jackson and Michael Irvin sitting there agreeing with him and saying right on and then the next week back pedalling and saying they didn't know what was happening and were embarassed.
accuratehorn, he was booted from ESPN because it created a media/political storm that ESPN wasn't ready to handle. It wasn't necessarily for his actual comments otherwise ESPN might have had to fire the whole crew as they all agreed with Rush.
People put down the crack pipe and step away from keyboard. Rush's $s spend like everyone elses. If you think a black football player that is offered a contract from the Rams that is more (amount is debateable but not millions) than other offers won't take it you are freaking nuts. I believe it was Steve Smith (former pro player) on CNN a few days ago called any player that says he won't play for Limbaugh no matter the money is a liar.
He created a media/political storm because he made remarks the African-American community didn't like. Plain and simple. Now some NFL players don't want him as an owner. Would they grudgingly have to play for him if he buys a team? Probably so, unless they can escape on the underground railway.
If the 'talent' were to lack the leverage to stop the sale, I seriously doubt the result would be a meaningful defection. Let's not forget the Rams suck pretty bad to begin with, the players here don't have as much pull as others might. I think the reality is that there are players who would rather not work for Rush, and are prepared to say so publically. That said, I suspect there is a rather wide gap between "rather not" and "will not".
Rush is a genius. He's the king of knowing exactly what he's saying, and the kind of shitstorm that will ensue, and then going "What? Was it something I said? Well gosh, I really didn't mean anything by it. The problem must be on your end."
NFL is full of over-hyped black players, Rush. You need to be wise and invest your money in Nascar, Rush.
Nord Yes I agree but how is Rush supposed to defend or explain things he did not say? The racist remarks wrongly attributed to him have gotten a ton of attention. Wil the same amount of attention be given to pointing the lies?
My $,02. Rush's comments about Mcnabb were not racist. They were certainly racial. The backlash that erupted was comical. The reporters he was referring to were just pissed off that he called them out. There is a very good argument that Rush was, in fact right. I really like Mcnabb and think he is a great qb and a warrior for his team. However, if you go back and look at the records, the Eagles actually had a better record when Mcnabb was injured and his back-up was starting and playing. I remember the media reports back then and there were many (not all but many) media members that essentially said Mcnabb was carrying a no talent team on his shoulders. But then he got hurt and the team kept winning which seems to suggest it wasn't actually all Mcnabb. I don't think Rush should have said what he did but it is not an indefensible position. Further, his comments about black qbs was ONLY made in context to Mcnabb. he did not, in any sense, make any comment about any other qb and attempts to try that approach are losers. As to him owning a team I don't think it makes one bit of difference. For years/decades we were told that the Boston Red Sox played in the most bigoted city in the world. Yet, free agency hasn't really been a problem there and it won't be if Rush is an owner. Further, if there is a player out there more concerned with a bit owner of the team versus the actual team- I don't want that guy on my team anyway. Lastly, I rarely listen to Rush and find his show boring and contrived. Much like Michael Moore he uses things out of context and then exagerates points to comical levels. Its just not that good or entertaining or intellectual.
