ESPNU 150 athlete Demarco Cobbs drops Tennessee for Texas Under Armour All-American Demarco Cobbs (Tulsa, Okla./Central) decommitted from the Volunteers on Thursday and has committed to the Longhorns, ESPN affiliate Web site InsideTexas.com reports. Assistant coach Bruce Chambers recruited Cobbs, the nation's No. 17-rated overall player, for the Longhorns. Texas now has 20 commitments, including 11 off the ESPNU 150. Cobbs joins defensive tackles Taylor Bible (Denton, Texas/Guyer) and Ashton Dorsey (Tyler, Texas), linebacker Aaron Benson (Cedar Hill, Texas) and cornerback Adrian White (DeSoto, Texas) as Texas commits who will play in the Under Armour All-American game January 2nd. Cobbs has carried 103 times for 946 yards (9.2 average) and 13 touchdowns and completed 30 of 56 pass attempts (53.6-percent) for 577 yards, seven touchdowns and two interceptions this season. On defense, he's registered 50 tackles, one interception, one fumble recovery and one forced fumble for 6-2 Tulsa Central.
This is the most out-of-left-field recruiting news I've heard in years. Very impressed with the coaching staff, very pleased.
Hey guys. Just an FYI that we (Inside Texas) talked to Cobbs earlier today and again tonight and have a story on his commitment. I don't want to link it because it's a premium story on our site, but just wanted to let you know that we reported the commitment earlier tonight (that's where the ESPN info above in the first post and on the Belton-Temple game broadcast came from)...
I saw this announcement during the Belton vs Temple game. I thought that he was bound for Knoxville. Awesome pickup. Now go get Jackson Jeffcoat and Jordan Hicks and wrap up this class.
best player in oklahoma. Last time this happened local sports radio wend into vapor lock and they compared the kid to the california kid who joined the taliban.
Wow, never imagined this commit. Am really curious what position he ends up at; with talent like his, I'm sure he could plug into almost any of the skill positions. This is one guy who might be a real threat in the Wild Horn. Welcome, Mr. Cobbs!
Holy cacarollie, Batman. Totally unexpected. Wow, out of nowhere and BAM, upside our Burnt Orange heads. Easter Egg Orange in TN must be livid and I could care less. Here is my loud and thunderous.........YAWP!!!
um...maybe im missing something...what does everyone think he can do? He runs a verified 4.76 40, is 6'1, 26" vertical...he better have quan-like hands otherwise he's going to be playing a lotta special teams coverage.
mstrat, That time isn't right. He's a legit track guy. Runs a 10.6 100 M. Projects as WR. Rated #5 WR by scout. Top 10 all positions by Sporting News, etc. He was also Tennessee's top recruit in the ESPN 150. He had 41 offers when he verballed to the vols. ALL of the usual suspects (Fla, Lsu, Bama, USC, ou, etc) This is better than great news. HOOK 'EM, Texdoc
Ahh, okay...someone should tell Rivals to fix their info (first sight that came up when I Googled this guy).
Fantastic. An unusual pickup for us, at any time of year. Out of state, leaning TX, LSU, USC, then verbal to TN....then back to TX. Way to go, staff, for bringing DeMarco home to the good guys! Now I've just got to get back to focusness on okst. This should help me summon some positive horns up energy.
Wow, pretty highly rated on ESPNs list. A solid 4 star on Rivals(#120). Been awhile since we took the top player out of OK. Great get. Another playmaker on offense which is exactly what we will need in upcoming years. Texas just adding to its lead as the #1 overall class in 2010.
Hey Guys, Just wanted to give Clendon his props. He did have it on his premium site where I subscribe, first. Then it popped up on Orangebloods (also a subscriber)... I didn't want to pull from Clendon's site so I waited until ESPN posted it to bring it over here. Clendon and his guys have really done a great job with the site of late and if you don't subscribe, you should check it out.....
