    That is very cool to see some good American marathoners again! I thought Hall would be the odds-on favorite.

    For those who didn't know, Austin is the home of legendary American marathoner, Dick Beardsley, who competed neck and neck with Salazar on many occasions.

    He is a friend of mine, and has an amazing and inspirational story: Dick Beardsley Foundation

    My comment was a bit snide, but I realize after reading the NY Times article on him that I'm not the first to make a comment like this. Here's a pretty good story about the guy.

    Many Americans were born elsewhere, including ex-Horn Leonel Manzano and his USA teammates Bernard Lagat and Lopez Lomong. All three runners who represented the USA in the 1500 at the Beijing Olympics were foregin-born, but are Americans now. We are a land of immigrants, and hopefully, always will be.
