If Florida plays in the game, tickets will probably be a lot cheaper. Remember that the 06 game was the perfect storm of circumstances...UT had not been in 35 years, and it was a local game for USC fans. Drivable for Texas fans as well. That will not be the case this year. It's a long *** flight for Florida fans. Driving is pretty much out of the option for most. Plus, they just went last year.

I wend to the OU-USC game in Miami...there were so many cheap tickets it was ridiculous. Anecdotal evidence points out this is the case for a lot of MNC games without special circumstances.

I don't think that the market this year will be anywhere close to what it was in 06.

    Just my .02.

The cutoff back in 2005 was about $750... My friend and I just happened to join LHF in 2005 with our $1000 donation... we were definitely sweating bullets waiting to see if we had given enough to get the Rose Bowl tickets.. through HornFans.com, we were able to get the 1st scoop as people posted the donation cutoff..

Because of stadium expansions at DK Royal Memorial since 2005, there are more LHF donors. That also means that the donation cutoff for the BCS Championship game this year will probably be higher than in 2005 because LHF will get the same amount of tickets as in 2005 (24,000 tickets from what I remember).

Another way to get tickets is for those of you that know anyone that is a Pasadena resident. The Rose Bowl sets aside tickets for Pasadena residents each year and they have to go fall in line to get these tickets. From what I heard, the Pasadena residents get some great seats on the Press Box side of the field... Here is the link to tickets for Pasadena residents:

    The Link

That being said, there is nothing like being able to tailgate ALL day on a golf course with all the fans of both teams. January 4, 2006 ended up being a perfect day, although it had rained a few days before that and there was talk of the Rose Bowl closing the golf course for parking and tailgating (which would have really sucked because there is no other place to park in the residential neighborhoods except for Brookside Golf Course).

Also, seeing the amount of Texas fans that had made the trip in their Winnebagos and trucks and smokers and BBQs was a truly Amazing scene!! i have to admit that all the setups I saw from the USC tailgaters paled in comparison to the Texas tailgaters (props to all Texas tailgaters!!)... I also heard an estimate of 40, 000 - 45,000 Texas fans showing up even though only 24,000 (I hope my numbers are right from memory) tickets were available to Texas fans... it was also an awesome sight when everyone was singing the Eyes of Texas after the game... you could hear it on TV and people outside the stadium could hear it as well!!

Anyway, my friend and I have increased our donations since 2005 so that we could get the best seats possible each year at each Bowl game. We were in the middle of the Texas end zone between the uprights about 40 rows up in 2005... we got to see the game winning TD develop and once VY took off for the end zone, everyone on the Texas side knew he was running in for a TD!!!

This definitely is the BEST BOWL GAME to GO to HANDS DOWN! None of the other bowls come close to everything the Rose Bowl has to offer!!!

Looking forward to seeing the Burnt Orange nation again on January 7, 2010 (especially since I live in Los Angeles now after moving from Dallas earlier this year!!!)

    Interesting thought skipperj.

I know a few Florida fans in Dallas who would rather just watch the game in front of the TV,

I bought 6 tickets on firstdibz when the prices were only $110 each. (I purchased them the week of the Missouri game). I also bought tickets on there last year and lost out. If Texas doesn't make it to the national title game, then yes, you lose the cost of the dibz. If we make it, then I will be obligated to buy 6 tickets at face value ($275 each). The $110 cost per ticket is not applied to the face value price, so each ticket would cost $385, which is still a great price. Of course, you have to be somewhat of a 'gambler' to take this route, but I like my chances this year.

Pasadena residents do get a few tickets to the Rose Bowl, but none to the MNC game played at the Rose Bowl. Cutoff in 05' was $600, not $750. This year, higher (4000 new NEZ Touchdown Club/ Chairback Club donors at $750 to $2k per seat).

There were SO many tix to the Michigan Rose Bowl you could have gone for almost free. Fast forward to the USC game and it was bone dry.

Pops and I got REALLY lucky. Bought our tix day of game from the owner of a ticket company from NYC, his wife and kid couldn't go so sat with him. We were just lucky. We both had signs....We need tix. Saw the guy walking out of the USC tailgate early in the day and he just asked us if we needed tix. Ended up costing 1100 for the pair.

The only other tix we saw that day were from some student that wanted 1700 for a single.

I don't know what to make of the tix this year, depends on who gets in. If its Florida I would think the tix would be less since they just went last year...but who knows.

726 , according to the Rose Bowl website, Pasadena residents have access to both games this year... It sounds like if you get an armband and get there early enough on Dec. 5, you will have the option of buying tickets to one, either, or both games.

I do agree with the higher donation levels due to the new seats from the stadium expansion...

skipperj is right on. If you just wanted to get in the Rose Bowl in 06, there were plenty of tickets on swap meet for $800 - $900 in the weeks leading up to the game. I picked my ticket up the day of the game for $850. I would guess that without a local team playing this year, plus the economy, tickets will be way lower. I wouldn't expect to pay more than $600 to get in the stadium for this years game, probably less. Booked my flight today.

I got laid off this year so we don't see how we can rationalize our way into this game if Texas makes it. Just can't justify the expensive with my income cut in half.

In '05, there was no way, and I mean NO WAY I was going to miss that game - I would have sold my f*ng car and driven a clunker to go to that. Once in a life time opportunity as far as I was concerned. Hubby found a pair for $1500 via ticketmaster or something, we booked the earliest SW flight in day of the game, spent that one beautiful night in Pasdena and flew home the next day. (we had done the whole parade, LA/Malibu, PC highway thing for the Michigan game). Best day money we have ever spent. Best day of my life (besides my wedding - but I gotta say that in case he reads this [IMG]

If you didn't go in '06 - FIND A WAY to do it this year if we make it!!!! We have had to make some sacrifices this year due to my job, but we are going to have one hell of a party. It makes me sick to think I can't go, but the real world has slapped us in the face and it is what it is. I should have done dibz when they were $100 and I knew it, I have a $500 credit on JetBlue I could use...but it will still add up to $2000 easy. Priceless - yes. Practical in hard times - no.

Everyone has to use their best judgment OR....throw that ALL out the window and JUST DO IT and way you can.

I booked my flight this evening. Of course, I have high donor friends that won't go and are letting me buy their tickets at face. [IMG]

I also bought SWA tix. That way I can easily use the funds for another trip, work probably, if circumstances change.

in 05 you were able to add to your donation to get better tickets for the game which rasied the cutoff. The foundations phones were ringing off the hook with people giving 1000 to 3000 all day. They had many several 100,000 dollar days. That is not the case this year, what you donated in March is were you stay.

What? It costs money to go to the NC game? My son and I sold half of our four tickets for enough to cover the price of our game tickets, plane tickets, hotel, taxi, meals and souvenirs.

One of the cool things I noticed watching the 05 MNC game on TV was that the stadium was very much split between USC and Texas fans. Both teams were #1 and #2 all season long that both teams fans scooped up Tix very early. This year it is a little more uncertain between UF and Alabama/LSU fans. They will likely wait a litlte bit longer to buy tickets. Or they will buy now and then resell later which will drive up the secondary market prices. Either way you are likely not going to see as many of the actual team fans as you did in 05.....which is part of why I think it was so special.

Yeah...I remember the swap meet tickets being around 700 about 3 weeks before the game. I passed and my wife went on razorgator(like stubhub) and paid twice that. I've never been such a happy and sad panda at one time on Christmas morning. I had to wait two more years to get an HD TV but VY made it worth it. [IMG]

LA papers have always maintained that we had more people at NC game. We obviously had more people than Michigan did the year before. Aside from the block of tickets that we had, there were huge numbers of UT people in all sections of the Rose Bowl. And 45 minutes after the game only about 10 of them had left. It was really obvious at that point how many people we had. Mack even commented in the televised remarks about our fans "and most of them are here". He was right.

I had a pair of tickets even with the 4th and 2 line of scrimmage, about 6 rows from the top. Paid $3K on eBay. Remember being amazed how good the seats were even though they were high up. Not sure how folks in the end zone felt.

Don't remember how I checked him out before I won the bid, but do remember feeling safe enough to rely on the guy showing up at a bar the night before the game. Not too thrilled about carrying that much cash on me in LA, but definitely enjoyed the results.

Given that I dropped $4K just four years ago, the economy, etc., I would only pay $1K for the same tickets again. Thus I'll be watching on my burnt orange leather sofa on the TV that DirecTV knows as "Bevo".

I mentioned earlier that myself and 2,000 other fans got into the Rose Bowl in 06' to watch the game from the steps in the middle of the isles. Many fans made room for us as they could tell we were Longhorn fans, and were nice enough to just squish. However some fans complained loudly that they paid 2k for tix and didn't feel like budging.
For the folks that were there, did you guys notice the 2,000 longhorn fans sitting in the isles?

If I was in your section, excuse me, and thanks! [IMG]

OK my isle story. I had a ticket in corner end zone row 62 but felt alone up there. Around the middle of the 2nd quarter I started to roam the one walkway that connects all the tunnels which is around row 20. I would try to follow the ball up and down the field but the ushers were militant about me standing in on spot very long always had to keep moving so at halftime I retreated to my seat. Then went back down a few min.
into the 4th quarter and by then the ushers were so into the game they didn’t care. I was spot on the ball for every play with literally the best seat [place ] in the house for every play, the best was the 4th and inches ,wow almost had and aneurism, then of course the 4th and 2. Good times

One other thing that justifies higher tickets in my mind: there isnt a bad seat in the Rose Bowl. That is an awesome football venue.

I had my tix via my LF donation back in 2005 as well. Face value on that 2005 ticket was $175. I just looked. I have it signed by DKR and MB and framed and matted with a picture of VY scoring autographed by VY. :)

Screw this modern thievery of so called big time sports. I attend high school football games, $6 a ticket, and attendees are actually appreciated. Take Jerry Jones for example, he wants every dime he can squeeze from the D-FW area. UT Football hasn't reached this level of disgrace, and I hope the business shot-callers at UT will resist increased levels of greed.

What about Student Tix? I have the sports package with the Season Tickets option for football... I am in Grad school now and was not in 2005; During the 2005 NC, I landed my tickets from ebay two weeks before the game... got a sweet deal from some USC alum who just wanted to unload, I think I paid $900 for the pair and Vince ran right into our end zone to win the game... worth every penny...

Anyone know the odds of getting tickets offered being a Grad student? I think priority goes Seniors, Grad, Juniors, etc...

    Just received this email today.
Our 2009 Texas Longhorns football team is postseason bowl eligible and also may qualify for the Big 12 Championship game in Arlington, Texas. The Big 12 South Division champion has not been determined, and official postseason bowl invitations are not extended until Sunday, Dec. 6. However, UT Athletics is accepting requests for all potential UT postseason games.

Priorities for filling bowl game ticket orders are as follows: UT students, Longhorn Foundation donors, T-Association members, UT Voting Faculty, Texas Exes members, and general public.

The deadline for priority handling of Big 12 Championship game tickets is 4 p.m. Central on Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2009.
