This sorta covers all sports, but it stems from football discussion, so I figure it best fits here. Is this guy serious?

I used my friend's sub to ISU's premium board to read their reaction and these guys are acting like they are in a position to pick up and leave for the Big 10.

    A) Please, leave the conference.

    B) Why in God's name do they think the Big 10 would want them? They'd be the worst school academically, the farthest West, probably bring the fewest TV sets and almost no money. Oh yeah, and they are good at what? Wrestling? Still the second best team in their own state.

Great. Then, we pick up TCU to replace ISU and add the Metroplex TV market.

The only thing replacing ISU with TCU gets us is a better football team. ISU doesn't draw many fans for football, but they still beat TCU in that department. If TCU joined the Big XII they might draw more fans, but the increaes would be minimal.

If we want to add a program BYU would bring more fans and a larger TV audience. I would not want to add them, but if we are talking about a logical replacement then we need to look at the best alternatives.

We need to dump all of them and go IND ala the domers. The ags and okies would still play us as would the buffalos and bears. Throw in Rice and SMU as powder puffs plus the annual buy in game and you already have 7 right there. How about an annual with the domers and a service academy! Now we have 9. Cherry pick the other three and create some great match-ups (Alabama, UCLA, and some ACC team come to mind). Hell maybe even play the corn.

Now for the best part, no more road trips to Ames, Kansas, Stillwater or Lubbock!

I don't see the Big Ten adding ISU, but since ND keeps saying no, if it wants a conference championship game, it has to add someone.

BTW, Ames is closer than Minneapolis-St. Paul to all other Big Ten cities with the exception of being essentially equidistant to Madison.

As someone previously stated, we already get the DFW market with Texas, OU, and A&M. We don't need TCU or SMU added to get that market. Here's an idea. What about dropping Iowa State for Tulane? That would give us the New Orleans TV market and would open up conference exposure to the state of Louisiana. And, who wouldn't want to go to New Orleans to party every couple of years?

I heard the big X wants to pick up two more teams and would pick up iowa st and ND.

The big XII could pick up TCU and UH.

BYU and Colorado to the Pac 10.

I've heard murmurings in the past of Arky wanting to leave the SEC and join the Big XII. That would probably make the most sense if Iowa State left to join the Big Ten. There aren't any large TV markets in Arkansas, but several mid-sized ones.

However, I don't want Arky snooping around in Texas stealing our talent. OU does a fine enough job of that already.

Wah, wah, boo hoo the Big 8 did us a favor.......

Imagine if you will what the "Big 8" minus the Texas schools would look like today. It isn't pretty, and it isn't very competitive. Mid-major level, IMHO with the exception of ou, which is basically what the SWC was, Texas and everyone else.

Nebraska needs to get back, then Texas, ou and some other fourth Big 12 team who's occasionally good will set the tone for the conference on a national scale. History doesn't lie.

I think Missouri is a much better match for the Big 10 than Iowa State.

While we're at it, why not add St. Mary's or Trinity to get San Antonio?

I would trade ISU for Rice in a heartbeat.

Neither Rice nor Tulane draws well enough (particularly for football) to suit the Big XII honchos. Plus, as was mentioned, both schools are very small.

Rice would be a nice educational boom to the conference, obviously, and their baseball program is top notch, but I don't think Rice athletics can bring in the type of dollars the Big XII would fancy as a major conference.
