I am not impressed with hoovers CFS. The steak is too thin. Threadgills is better imo. Hyde park as well. Pike
I forgot about Z Tejas -- very good CFS Hoovers -- I relaly like Hoover's in general, but the CFS isn't anything special there. It's good, just not great Anyone remember Beans that used to be in the warehouse district area years ago? They had good CFS, and I recall it was 2 for 1 on one night of the week.
about the ribeye, many years ago I was working at Luby's, we had some leftover ribeyes. the next day we took those medium rare ribeyes, tenderized them and made chicken fried steak. mmmm, the best chicken fried steak I ever made.
Occasionally I will have a bit of prime rib leftover after smoking it on the pit. I will batter it in hatch green chili tortilla chips, and fry it. if you find something better I would love to know what it is.
Mine are best 'cause I fry 'em in bacon grease. I go to Hoovers when I don't feel like cookin' and start off with a cup of their gumbo. Threadgills pretty much uses the same recipe as Hoover's since Hoover was the cook there for a long time, but they changed something and it isn't quite as good anymore.
Mary's in Strawn Goodsons Cafe in Tomball Jake & Dorothy's in Stephenville Nothing else is even close.
